Johnson 1998 175 hp outboard motor seems to be in safe mode. Was running great and stopped at beach for fifteen minutes. Boat started up just fine and then all of a sudden it shut off. It started right back up, but will not go faster then around 5 to m10 mph. Changed fuel filter, plugs, made sure oil was filled, sprayed a little carb cleaner in the carbs, filled gas, cleaned out the thermostats, and put chems in gas in case gas may be bad or had water. Nothing has helped. The hot warning beeped yesterday when trying to get it to go faster, but then went out if we slowed down to almost no speed. How can you tell if it is safemode due to oil or water cooling. Water is coming out of the telltale ok, so I am leaning towards the oil injection. What can I look for? Fuses? wires? Motor oil is filled.I did overfill the oil last time I filled it. Any ideas or suggestions? Also will it automatically go out of safemode if you correct the problem?
U CAN DISCONNECT THE OIL RESOVIOR SWITCH THAT TAKE IT OUT OF SAFE MODE BUT IM LEANING TOWARD THE POWER PACK
