SOURCE: error code AF Whirlpool cabrio dryer
I found the answer to the code AF also and it means the air flow is blocked. I checked my dryer vent on the outside and it was clear. However when I removed the dryer duct it was clogged just inside the machine. I had washed and dried a blanket that shed alot!

"AF" is a restricted air flow condition. You say you've only had your dryer for 3 months, but have you ever cleaned the ducting? You need to check the lint screen after every load, AND you need to perform routine cleaning of the dryer venting (inside the dryer, as well as the vent line from the dryer to where it exits the house) about every three months. If left in this condition, the dryer heating circuitry will eventually failed and/or you could cause a fire hazard. An easy way to check to see if you have a clog somewhere is to remove the dryer vent hose from the back of the dryer. Run the dryer to see if you have air flow coming from the back of the unit. The air should be about 140 degrees F and forceful. Check to see if the error comes back. If everything runs fine, then you know the problem exists in the vent line between the dryer and where it exits the house. If you still have problems, you will need to unplug the dryer, remove the back panel and inspect the interior for clogs. At least you have a dryer that warns you when the air flow become restricted or blocked. Most dryers will continue to run until they overheat or fail. I hope this information is helpful. Post back with your comments and let me know.

Hi Terry,
AF flashes if a restricted airflow condition exists. Check to make sure the lint screen is clean, the door seal is in place and the vent is not
obstructed.
I suspect it's the vent connecting the dryer to the wall or the vent pipe in the wall to the outside. Without moving your dryer, look behind it to see if the flex duct is crushed or pinched. If it is, it's pinching off your air flow, too. Pull the dryer out straighten or replace the hose (you can get vent hose at Home Depot, Lowes or Ace Hardware) then slide the dryer back being careful to keep it about 8" from the wall (8" is the recommended distance from the back of the dryer to the wall, btw).
If the flex vent is NOT pinched off, then you should call a chimney sweep to come out and clean the vent pipe that's in the wall.
*Note---> If you want to test this diagnosis to verify it, just disconnect the flex hose from the wall and run a load of clothes. The error code should not reappear.

check for clog or kink in dryer vent
SOURCE: Why is my Whirlpool Cabrio
Thank you for contacting Fixya.com. According to the manual.... "AF (low airflow condition): 1. Clean lint screen. 2. Check to see if the vent run from the dryer to the wall is crushed or kinked. 3. Confirm the vent run from the dryer to the wall is free of lint and debris. 4. Confirm the exterior vent exhaust hood is free of lint and debris. 5. Confirm your vent system falls within the recommended run length and number of elbows for the type of vent you are using. 6. Select a Timed Dry heated cycle, and restart the dryer. 7. If the message persists, have your entire home venting run cleaned." Please get back to us if you have any further query. Have a nice day.
The dryer will continue to run when this diagnostic code is present. Press any key to clear the code from the display and return to the estimated time remaining.
