Measure your total battery voltage. That is measured across the main positive cable and the main negative cable. If you have a 48 volt golf cart and an automatic charger, any pack voltage under 42 volts will not turn the charger on. Your only recourse then would be to charge one battery at a time until you get 42 or higher.

2009 G29 Yamaha Golf Cart. Kids didn't plug in charger correctly and melted the charging port and plug. Changed both still won't charge. Charger does not work either.

If the charging port and plug have been replaced and the charger still does not work, there may be an issue with the charging circuit in the golf cart. Here are a few things you can check:
  1. Charging fuse: Check the charging fuse to see if it's blown. If it is, replace it with a new one of the same amperage.
  2. Charging relay: Check the charging relay to see if it's working properly. You can do this by using a multimeter to check the resistance across the relay contacts. If there is no resistance, the relay is bad and needs to be replaced.
  3. Charging receptacle: Check the charging receptacle to make sure it's getting power. Use a voltmeter to check for voltage at the charging port.
  4. Charging controller: The charging controller may be damaged if the charging port and plug were melted. Check the charging controller for signs of damage or overheating. If it's damaged, it will need to be replaced.
If none of these solutions work, it may be best to take the golf cart to a professional mechanic or dealer for further diagnosis and repair.

With new batteries in a EZGO golf cart, when you plug in the charger when the batteries are showing half charge, the charger runs for about 15 seconds, shuts off for 2 seconds, and then back on.

How old is this unit? What is the model number? The newer carts have an smart charger that will tell what is wrong with a flashing code on the charging light.

Charger works but cant get it to charge when plugged into my cart 48 volt

This can be one of several problems. Make sure charger works on another cart first. If it does then check total voltage of your cart, has to be at least 42 volts before charger will turn on. If you plug in the charger and it does not turn on then listen for a small click from inside the charger. That would be the relay and if it operates then your voltage is ok and you have something else wrong. If you don't hear the click then check the small gray wire at charger receptacle. It sometimes breaks just inside the receptacle, Without this sense lead, charger will never turn on. If all batteries, wiring, sense lead, fuse in the sense lead are ok, then it might be the OBC (on-board computer).

What should I check to see why my charger won't charge the golf cart? The charger does work, but when the charger is plugged into the cart it will not charge.

There is a switch in the plug that will keep it from engaging. You said that the charger is working. How is it that you determine this? A thumbs up would be greatly appreciated if answer is helpful for your question. THANK you and GOD BLESS

Given a hand me down Dexton Lil Driver Battery Golf Cart. Is there an online manual to find out what the charging cord looks like & where to plug it into the cart.

To charge... you need to remove the seat. Only 2 screws holding it in place. Underneath you will see the battery...you will notice wires from the battery connect to wires from the motor on the wheels...pull apart those 2 connectors and attach the charger...then plug it in to a wall socket and leave connected for a long period of time. I don't remember how long it takes for a full charge...but I'm thinking at least 12 hours. If the battery doesn't hold a charge you can typically get it at walmart or online. Best of luck.

My 2000 Yamaha golf cart has 6-4cell 8 volt batteries. I did not leave the cart plugged in during the winter months. When I attempted to charge yesterday, the charger lights sequenced but stayed on...

Yes to both questions. the charger must sense 41.5 volts to activate the relay inside the charger. Being a repair shop, I have a charger that is rigged to charge even DEAD batteries. I do not recommend this for the novice. A charger set on 12 volts will bring the batteries back up to 8.2-8.6 volts. A cheap trickle charger may not put out enough to charge a battery of this size. Remember that they are used to MAINTAIN a charge. Connect the Voltmeter and watch for voltage rise. If it rises to 8.1 or above, it is charging. Trojan battery company recommends charging at least once a month.
