My ps3 cuts off seconds after it turns on

Your PS3 system may be faulty.

ok when you turn on your ps3 dont let go off the on/off button and wait till you hear a beep and then that should be it fixed if not reply back to this comment and i will tell you the other way to fix that

Ok please follow these steps :
Step 1. Turn the PS3 into standby mode (red light on)
Step 2. Press and hold the power button. It will beep when you first press it, then about 5 seconds later it will beep again. Let go of the power button when you hear the second beep.
Step 3. Wait for your PS3 to start up

What this procedure does is reset the video output back to standard definition so it will now work with the standard cables.

my ps3 cut out whilst playing it now won't switch on

With your PS3 turned off, press and hold the Power button on the front of the PS3 for about 10 seconds (the system will beep as normal as it starts up but after 7-10 seconds it will beep again). The video settings should now be reverted. Doing this will also reset any theme settings. try this? seems to fix alot of issues.

The problem that you are experiencing is called "The yellow light of Death" much like the "Three Red Light of Death" for the XBOX360.

If you see the yellow light blink, that means there is a general hardware failure. you need to contact sony for that because there is not much that we can do about it on our end. You don't really want to open up your ps3 and ending up butchering it. You'd rather want to just tell sony whats going on and have a deal with them. Just don't tell them that:

1. The PS3 might have overheated
2. You modded your PS3 or installed unauthorized software (hacks)

Just tell that that your PS3 suddenly quit working. If you still have warranty, you are in great shape. You won't be playing games for days though. Sorry man.

are you holding it down when you do it if thats the case then as soon as it turns green then remove your hand from it

this is the ps3 equivilent of the xbox360s red ring of death error, sorry to tell you but that means a serious system error has killed your ps3 its unfixable and you will have to send it off for a replacement
