make sure the magnets are good in the flywheel. then isolate the coil by removing the ground wire and see if you have spark then. also make sure your using a new spark plug gapped correctly
Hello,
There are 2 items that you need to pay close attention to is the air gaps;
1. Air gap of the points, and
2. Air gap between the permanent magnet and the pick up coil.
Use the manual to determine the proper gap size.
Keith you have got to make sure the gap is right between the coil and the magnetic flywheel. Use a buisness card to set the gap and make sure the coil is on the right way.
Ignition module gap Place a business or index card between the fly wheel and coil, rotate until the magnetic attraction pulls everything tight together. Tighten the coil screws, rotate the flywheel until the attraction eases and remove the card. Ensure nothing contacts when flywheel is rotated.
If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck. Lou Thank You for using FixYa.
FIRST check the gap of the flywheel magnet to the magneto coil. Use a business card as a spacer and adjust the gap. If unit has points rather than electronic triggering, check those and timing and gap.

Remove the plug, rotate until magnetic attraction pulls coil and card tight to flywheel, tighten the coil screws. Rotate flywheel until magnetic attraction eases, remove card, rotate a couple of revolutions and ensure nothing drags or contacts flywheel. HTH Lou
If you have not already, change the plug first and try it (very cheap insurance). If problem persists try this, it even checks the wiring and ignition switch: Ignition Coil Test by SmallEng.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7WNBDRG4C4 You may need to use a jumper wire between the threaded part of the plug and the cooling fins. You do not have to bend up the electrode.
If asking about ignition coil gap, an index or business card is a good gap tool. Remove the plug, rotate until magnetic attraction pulls coil and card tight to flywheel, tighten the coil screws. Rotate flywheel until magnetic attraction eases, remove card, rotate a couple of revolutions and ensure nothing drags or contacts flywheel. HTH Lou If I completely missed the problem you are having you can reply below with a little more information and I will try again. If you need the part number of a replacement coil I need the model and serial if a Poulan to give you the correct answer.
Remove the stop switch wire from the switch and check for spark (use a clean spare plug and the plug base touching engine metal), If nothing, trace the wire back to the ignition coil looking for worn insulation. Is this a magneto model or an all-in-one module? If a magneto, there should be points and condenser--check points gap (about 0.015") and condition. Check the core gap to flywheel magnets (I use card stock to set the gap). Try to wiggle the flywheel to check for crankshaft bearing looseness. If the ignition is an all-in-one module, check the core gap to the flywheel magnets. Otherwise replace the module. Hope this gets you running.
Hi Freddie ignition- to- flyweel gap means flyweel magnet positioned under the ignition coil armature.Remove the flyweel.Check the flyweel key(if it is sheared off install a new one).Remove the ignition coil.Clean the flyweel magnet and the ignition coil armature.Check the ignition coil wires and terminal to have continuity.Remove the breaker points cover,check the condenser and breaker points(they should not to be burned).The ignition breaker point gap and ignition-to-flyweel gap is 0.020" and the spark plug gap is 0.030". regards savumihai71
