Just replaced toner - now when trying to print, it makes a strange noise and doesn't print. When old toner is put back in, the noise is still there.

Brother MFC-8480dn laser printer makes a high screeching noise when prints.

Typically what causes what you are describing on many laser printers is the worn-out three gear set between the toner cartridge and fused assembly that needs replacing but sometimes simply replacing both the fused assembly and toner cartridge will temporarily resolve this issue

Samsung SCX 4300 invalid toner message with replacement cartridge

SOLVED IT!
- PROBLEM: I'm using a refilled toner / NOT original Samsung (supplier: Peach, Switzerland)
- SOLUTION: 1. Remove the toner 2. Simply put a tape over the four metal contacts on the backside of the toner 3. Insert the toner
- It will now print, the printer says "low toner" & the LED status light is red - just ignore! It still work well....
- EXPLANATION: the chip (behind the four contacts) seems not be needed. I used a compatible 3rd party toner (Peach, Switzerland)
- Observation: The refilled toner worked well for the first 2-3 weeks, then suddenly I had this error message.

Strange whistling like noise coming from the toner area when printing. Prints are fine, worried about noise.

Could be a noisy toner cartridge.
Open the door, remove the toner cartridge, and close the door again. If the machine does a few seconds of motor running with no noise, then that is the cause.
Not usually a major problem, just nuisance value.

Noises when printing copies

Take the new cart. out and reinstall the old cart. Does the noise disappear? I would tap and shake the toner cart. BUT BE CAREFULL, the cart is ready to spill toner. On the box and in the instructions it tells you, or should, that you must shake and tap the outside of the cart. This is due to settling and the toner maybe packed. By tapping and shaking it will feel the toner. If the toner is packed it will put undue pressure on the augers inside the toner cart. and cause a grinding noise. If after tapping and shaking, reinstall the new cart. and check. If everything is ok -- great. If the noise remains contact the company your purchased the cart. from and ask for a replacement. These cart. are mass produced and mostly reused ( refurbed). Parts wear now and they do not replace the inside parts, they just repack with toner and seal.

Big noise

If the printer was not making the noise before you replaced the fuser unit I would try the following:

1. remove and re-seat the new fuser unit and try a test print.

2. if it still makes noise, remove the new fuser unit and replace the old fuser unit and try a test print. (if you waited untill the printer refused to print on the old fuser this might not work).

If you don't get the noise with the old fuser, then it's possible that the new fuser is defective. You could try returning it for replacement at this point. If you still get the noise with the old fuser, then possibly it is not seated correctly or the latches aren't locked or there is some other unrelated issue.
