The RM-Y909 works for the KP46WT500, among other TVs. For the KP46WT500: to reset Timer 1 or Timer 2, you need to access the timer sub-menu. With the TV on, press Menu. Use the Joystick on the remote to select the Timer icon (looks like a clock) then press the center of the joystick (with the + with a circle at the center symbol). Use the joystick to select the timer you want to reset and then press Reset (on the left side at the bottom of the remote). Alternatively, you can just turn off the timer. The TV will remember the settings. Press Menu to exit the menus.
Sony has the manual on their product support page in the manuals tab: https://esupport.sony.com/US/p/model-home.pl?mdl=KP46WT500 . The direct link is https://docs.sony.com/release/KP46WT500.PDF . The Timer menu section is on page 57. I hope this helps.

Did you install the batteries correctly?
Some remotes (Universal) need to be re-programed when you install new batteries.
Go to remotefinder.rca.com/default.aspx?site=rca for proper codes.
SOURCE: How to open remote control Sony RM-Y181
I had open a Sony RM-GA010 because the transmitting bulb was stucked inside after a fall. The two screws inside the battery compartment was not really holding the case together. I used two flat screwdrivers working on the side of the remote control; one levered open a bit and the other slipped in further and levered more to split it open. I think a blunt knife may also do the job; but never a sharp one because it will be too dangerous. You need to accept some permanent depression at the edge of the control (better than a useless remote). Once you open some part, it become much more easy. After opening the outer case, you can access the buttons, but not he transmitting bulb in my case. I need to loosen two additional screws (i.e. totally four, including the two inside the battery compartment) to loosen the electronic board a bit and I could correct the bended transmitting bulb. Then put everything back, clicked up the case and the remote worked again!
