Use the HP LaserJet 4 Driver. That's what I did and the printer works fine.

Actually the HP LaserJet 5 driver will enable the duplexer, so I'll recommend it over the LaserJet 4. If you're printing pictures, I'd test to see which one gives you the best quality.

Thanks to everyone for sharing this information! In my case, with Windows 7 64-bit, the LaserJet 5 driver printed an article incorrectly (all the text that came before a word in italics was missing). The HP LaserJet 4si driver printed the article correctly, printed pictures, and provides duplex (double-sided) printing too.

I recently acquired an NEC SuperScript 1260 laser printer but I need an adapter cable so it will work off my computer (Vista). I need a pin connector for the printer on one end and USB for computer. The...

The NEC SuperScript 1260 has a parallel printer port. So you would need a parallel to usb adapter. These aren't very expensive; depending on the brand and length you'll pay between $8 and $15. See https://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-Parallel-Converter-10-6-10-9-TU-P1284/dp/B0007T27HS or https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Parallel-Printer-Adapter-CB-CN36/dp/B00IDU0T1Y Alternatively, if you have a desktop, you can find a PCI or PCI-e add-on card with a parallel port, depending on the slots available in the system. These will be closer to $20 to $30. Then you need a standard parallel printer cable. Many computer parts sites, including Amazon.com, will have both.

A bigger problem may be the printer drivers. NEC did not update the drivers after Windows XP. (Some XP drivers will work under Vista.) NEC doesn't supply the drivers on their site: https://support.necam.com/Printers/Drivers/ . They refer you to the original driver CD that came with the printer. A few sites may have these drivers online. However, I haven't seen a link to a known trust-worthy site with the XP driver.

I hope this helps. Please add a comment if you need more information.

DRIVER FOR PRINTER NEC870 x WIN7 x64

You could try use the Windows XP SuperScript 870 driver or you could install the HP LaserJet III printer driver. It should work with your printer, but may have limited functionality.

Need printer drivers for NEC 1450N printer (yeah, I know, it's old, but it still works great) that work with Windows 7. Do they exist?

Many printer manufacturers are not making drivers for the older printers on Vista or 7. If you really need it you can load windows XP on VMware virtual machine and switch to XP to use your printer.

Hi Richard,
As you might all ready know, this printer is not supported by Vista,  pasible solution: - if you have another "old" computer, you could install your printer on that, and share it, that way you can printe via the other computer. in case you want drivers for all other software, here is the link.

If you load the printer drivers from a Windows XP install disk (in the i386 directory), that worked for me.
