You do not have to turn anything on. Use Google maps (download from www.m.google.com/maps) or any other maps that you like and set it up to use built-in GPS device. When you start using these maps, they will on their own stat the GPS and start using it. You will get an indication by a dish being displayed on the screen. This can be used by the mobile alone, you cant use it on your computer like other bluetooth GPS'.
I am not sure but I know a person that can find out. Im betting you have been told correctly the technology has been out a few years and is at apermimum. If it was available on a laptop it would defeat the reason for having it in Carrier's eyes.
