Question about Nintendo 64 Console

Game works but won't save

Iv'e unearthed my N64 for my son to try out. Everything is running great, most games save fine. Paper Mario in specific will play fine but will not save (by using a save block or ending a stage). I'm assuming this is some kind of bug in the game and is unfixable by me, just seeing if any other possibilities and solutions were known.

thanks to both solutions. This helps. I don't know much about the inner workings of the cartridge and have now been led a little bit further out of the woods.

This does indeed sound like a glitch in the battery backup system built into the cartridge; the battery could perhaps be dead, although that really should have taken longer to happen. Unfortunately, I don't think you're going to be able to fix this. The good news is that the problem is almost certainly in the cartridge itself and not the console, and a replacement cartridge probably wouldn't be that hard to find, or too expensive.

I was completely unaware of that system; thank you very much for letting us know about it.

My Paper Mario 64 game isn't working. Other video games work in the system.

The contacts on the game pak are corroded.. look at the end of it to see if you see a bunch of shiney contacts on the board.. if they are dirty looking you need to clean with a pencil eraser.. run on them and they will shine right up.

Well try leaning the gamepacks out with qutips and rubbing alchoal and buy new games to see if they work too. Im guessing that the mem cart that loads up the games in the console might be wearingout too.

Hi I'm having a problem with my Nintendo 64, it won't play the game. I just recently bought Super Mario 64 at a yard sale, and when i got home it doesn't work. I unplug and plug everything,...

Well It might be the gamepack but the only way to test it out is to try it one a different N64 console to see if you have any luck if it works somewheres else than your N64 console has an internal problem of it 0 luck on something else than Its a fake gamepack because the old consoles will reject fake game packs then.

How to download super mario 64

You can download a Super Mario 64 rom and a Nintendo 64 emulator and you will be able to play this game on your computer. Click on the link below.

http://www.freeroms.com/n64.htm

  1. On the site, click one of the hyperlinks to download an emulator, I recommend Project 64 v1.6
  2. Click Super Mario 64 to download the rom (it should be under "Top 20 Most Popular N64 ROMS")
  3. Install Project 64 and then open it.
  4. On the Project 64 window, choose "File" > "Open Rom" and find the Super Mario 64 rom that you downloaded, double click it. And that's it! The game will start and you can begin playing :)
On another note, I also recommend using a usb gamepad controller, like a MadCatz Xbox 360 GamePad controller, they work great for these kind of games.
- I hope this helps, if you have anymore questions feel free to ask :)

When I was playing it on my Project 64 emulator, the game froze when I was about to get that weight thingy. How do you fix that glitch?

I would experiment with different emulators other than Project 64, such as the ones found here:

http://www.emulator-zone.com/doc.php/n64.

Try downloading the Paper Mario rom file again (can have multiple file extensions, such as .zip .z64 .n64 .rom) from the same place, or other locations if possible. If this this doesn't work, consult the help file for the emulator you are using and tweak the settings around.

You could also try using plugin's to fix the error. If it's a graphics issue, try using Jabo's Direct 3D video plug-in. Consult the Project 64 help/home page for more info on plugins.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Kirby 64 won't hold a save file

The battery inside the game pak has died, thus, it can no longer hold a save.
Buy a special screwdriver for n64 Game Paks. Unscrew the casing, then find the battery inside the Pak. Take it (the battery) to any store that sells watches, then ask for a replacement for that battery. Plug the batery (+ side facing you) in the Pak, then screw it back together.

Your game should now save. :)
