Do any experts know the answer to this question? It has been posted multiple times, but I dont' see any answers! It is a pitiful manual that is provided by Yamaha for this purpose and nothing is intuitive about making this work. If anyone know the answer, PLEASE POST IT!
Here's how I got mine to work. I found the answer from another user. Thanks, Buddy! I don't know how you ever figured this out since it is defintely not in the manual. Furthermore, the Yamaha website is so out-of-date, the manual downloads don't even exist. Great job!
1) Press the "code set" button with a pen or straightened paper clip 2) Press the [A] key (next to "V-AUX") 3) Enter the code
Test it by pressing the Power key in the TV section on the remote (NOT the "Source" Power" key or Main power key at the top). Here's how I got mine to work. I found the answer from another user. Depending on the remote the TV will be pre-linked to one of the inputs. In the case of the RAV290 it seems to be AV1. So setup your TV for AV1 and it should work.
Solution: Yamaha remote RAV 290
1) Press Code set: then it blinks twice..
2) Press HDMI button either 1,2,3 or 4 on which you want to re-assign the remote code. (then it blinks one time)
3) Press the code of the TV, DVD or any equipment listed its a four digit. example for Hitachi TV 1s 0014.
this will be the pattern...
press code set button, (blink twice)
press HDMI button sample 1
then input the code of hitachi which is 0014
then blink twice.. succesfull..

Using the RX-V667 remote to control your TV

RX-V667: How to program remote control codes for TV Control Key Operations
Note: The following steps must be
completed within 1 minute. Settings will be automatically stopped after
1 minute passes since the last operation and steps 2 through 4 will
have to be repeated.
Use the remote codes listed in the receiver manual/CD Rom to find your TV manufacture code.
Press the Code Set button on the remote using a small pointed object such as a ball point pen or small paper clip.
Press the TV Power button on the bottom of the remote.
Enter in your TV remote control code using the Numeric Keys on the remote control.
Once the remote control code is registered successfully the Transmit light will blink twice. If the Transmit light blinks more than twice the code registration has failed. Steps 2 through 4 will need to be repeated.
If multiple control codes exist, start with the first one on the
list. If it does not work, cross it off and try the next code until one
works.

Set-up (Programming) procedure is too much to type in here, and is not practical and it will differ brand-to-brand remote controls. If you wish to get more; check the sites linked here. It has set-up code list & set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. One among it has general set-up codes to check with TVs and other devices are given, in the order of the 'device's brand name list' in alphabetical order. Pull up older posts. Search the sites by type in the brand name to your device in its search box at the top right part of the display window. It will help you to find the document easily. http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/ http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/

I uploaded the list of remote codes here: RAV331 Remote Codes. I hope this helps- it took me an hour to find the stupid CD that came with my receiver and remote!! As for steps to program: Press the CODE SET button, the LED will blink twice. Then press the input button you want to control (HDMI1, 2, etc...) or the power button down in the TV section at the bottom of the remote. The LED will blink at you again. Then enter the 4 digit code you find in the list of devices and the LED will blink several times to let you know you've set the code. Try powering on/off your device; if it doesn't work, try another code using the same steps!
Most receivers won't take in an HDMI and output through another form like component. They will only input HDMI and output HDMI. What you can get is a converter cable that will convert from HDMI to component, but the problem is you are going to lose sound. You will need to use a component cable from your device (DVD Player) to the yamaha receiver, then output component cables to the TV.
1. Set the selector dial to the position for controlling the component. (for example, set to "VCR" for a VCR) 2. Press both the VOLUME ^ and v keys at the same time and hold them until the indicator flashes twice. 3. Use the numeric keys to enter the four-digit manufacturer code for the component to be used. Make sure that the indicator flashes twice. NOTE: if the indicator does not flash, repeat step 3 and enter the code again. 4. Try operating the component with the remote controller to check the code entering is successful. If not enter another code for the same manufacturer.
i had the same problem with the same remote but just figured it out. on the remote, to the left of the "DOCK" button, you'll see two buttons labeled "[A]" and [B] which is what you'll use as the TV source button. press the code set button, wait for it to blink two times, then press the [A] button, and press your code. VOILA! problem solved. you could also use the [B] button, but it doesn't really matter. now the tv controls work on the remote. you may have to go through all the codes for your manufacturer but eventually it should work
You have to assign the tv code to one of the components such as AV1 or Audio 1. If you have to separate the audio from the video channels then you need to go to the yamaha website and look at the firmware update manual from august 2009. It tells exactly how to do this.
It does not prompt you to enter your code, simply hold the 2 buttons for a few seconds, then enter the code you have. If successful, it will read remotesetup OK. Hope this helps and if you have any codes for techics cd players, let me know!
Here's how I got mine to work. FIRST THING: Once it's programmed, you use the TV function keys at the bottom of the remote for Power On, channel changing, etc. The other keys on the remote don't operate the TV.
1) Press the "code set" button with a pen or straightened paper clip 2) Press the [A] key (next to "V-AUX") 3) Enter the code
Test it by pressing the Power key in the TV section on the remote (NOT the "Source" Power" key or Main power key at the top).
