You cannot. You will need to install a full ink cartridge for the ink which is currently depleted.
Even for just black print, even if the black ink cartridge is not empty, these days, most if not all color printers use a combination of the color inks, cyan (blue), magenta (red), and yellow with the black ink to print black and shades of gray. The printers are designed only to print with ink in all the cartridges.
The HP DeskJet 6122 can print with both or only one ink cartridge installed. The printer driver includes an option to print in gray scale as a substitution for color. If you choose to print a document that has a color other than black and white with only a black cartridge installed, I recommend you select the gray scale print option. To select gray scale, select the printer properties and check the box for gray scale rather than color printing. This selection can be made either at the time a document is ready to print (ie., a one time selection, using the "Properties" box in the print options window), OR as a permenant setting using the Control Panel, Printers, HP DeskJet 6122, "Properties" window. Once changed in the general printer properties, these settings remain active anytime the HP DeskJet 6122 printer is selected to print a document.
Please take out the new cartridges and re-position them correctly i.e. color cartridge on the left and black cartridge on the right seating. Check that you hear a click sound when the cartridge is placed in the seating. Print a test page. Then switch off the printer for some time. Re start the printer and now carry out the gray scale printing.
You don't have to replace the coloured cartridges if you only use black. But if you print something that is not pure black then it will use the other colors. For expample, if you print on a gray scale, since this is a color printer it will use the colored cartridges to get the gray color. The colored printer will only use the black ink for pure black colours. If you just use black to print, why not use an inkjet printer that just prints black or uses black cartridge. It is available in the market.
Under your printer preferences there is a way to print gray scale. SO even if your image is in color, it will print black and white. Every printer interface is different, but when you go to print, there's usually a properties or setting button that will bring you to another page from the initial print menu. here is where you would choose gray scale.
If you try for black with only a color cartridge, it'll come out a dark green or blue color. Or on some cases, it will tell you it's out of black and you can't print.
To replace the ink cartridges 1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is turned on. 2. Open the ink cartridge door by lifting from the front center of the device, until the door locks into place. 3. Squeeze the tab below an ink cartridge to release the latch inside the HP All-in-One, and then lift the latch. If you are replacing the black ink cartridge, lift the latch on the far left. If you are replacing one of the five color ink cartridges, such as yellow, light cyan (blue), cyan, light magenta (pink), or magenta, lift the appropriate latch in the center area. 4. Pull the ink cartridge toward you out of its slot to remove it. 5. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging, and then, holding it by the handle, slide the ink cartridge into the empty slot. Make sure that you insert the ink cartridge into the slot that has the same shaped icon and color as the one you are installing. 6. Press down on the gray latch until it clicks into place. 7. Repeat steps 2 through 5 for each ink cartridge you are replacing. 8. Close the ink cartridge door.
re Printing in black only - you can do this by selection this option from your application and choosing the print properties of the printer and setting to Black / Greyscale printing only.
its becoz even if ur print contains only black text in it, while printer printing in black it needs a cyan or yellow ink to give very clear print out. work around for this issue, go to the printer icon and right click and go printing preferances and change the option to print only in blak or print only in gray scale. it should resolve ur issue............
