SOURCE: Toshiba model number 62HM95 62' makes grinding noise

SORRY, This is from the authorized Toshiba parts center:

"The color wheel, lamp fan, lamp fan holder are parts of the LIGHT ENGINE only." It means the wheel is not sold separately and there is not even listed in the breakdown for the set a part number.

A replacement light engine (optical light engine) retails for 456.00 list and is sold on an exchange basis only.

I have a rear projection Toshiba model 62hm95. I have a rear projection Toshiba model 62hm95. I have a rear projection Toshiba model 62h

There is no bulb to replace on a rear projection set. It uses 3 separate picture tunes 1 red 1 Blu and 1 green coupled to magnification lenses that focus onto the mirror which the directs the image thru the screen. Access is usually by removing the trim ring and screen from the front. Access from the back only gains access to the circuit boards. Be very careful as each tube has its own high voltage transformer which can have from 50000 to 150000 volts.

Color wheel sound

FWIW
had a 46H84 given to me after "engine failure diagnosed" by Tech and $800 + estimate
Removed the engine and found the color wheel was very dirty and the shaft was not spinning well- cotton swab and denatured alcohol did the trick-
then cleaned the lens which was also dirty and while I was at it cleaned the mirror and backside of screen
Turned it on and WALLA- new set - the fan is a little noisy yet but liveable.
Total investment? 3-4 hours, 10-15 cotton swabs and a little alcohol- for the set on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Just took a little common sense - the service manual is available online also for about $8 shows basic teardown but does not get into engine teardown which was very basic. My guess is a majority of engine failures after 4-5 years are simply in need of a good cleaning in reality

Simutaneous clanking and dimming

Hello Miggs,

This sounds like a color wheel or cooling fan issue. I would take the set back and have them check the color wheel and fan assemblies.

I hope this helps

Toshiba 62HM95 62 in HDTV

Hello,

Check your color wheel to make sure it is spinning properly, and that your Fresnel lenses are clean. There are tools that allow you to check for the proper RPM settings of the color wheel.

I believe that your problem is being caused by the color wheel or the color wheel motor.

I hope this helps,
