I have a Necchi 537FA and I want to know what the knob (on the right hand side) with the dot and knit symbol does. This knob is the last one on the right hand side. Thanks in advance for the help.

I suspect the knob on the lower right hand side is the feed dog knob. The "knit" symbol is for the feed dog. One setting drops the feed dogs so you can move the fabric yourself, ie free motion quilting. The other setting raises the feed dogs so the machine will feed the fabric for you.

SOURCE: Tension trobleshooting

The proper tension for the 537 is between 4-6. You need to make sure that your presser foot is in the up position before threading.

SOURCE: Hand wheel won't turn

The belts needed for this machine are very specific in size, particularly the small one. The wrong belts will not work.

Look carefully at the bracket that holds the pulley. There are two screws that hold it in place. Loosen them slightly and run the machine and the pulley bracket may move on its own to where it needs to be. If not, you must find the right spot where it is tight enough not to slip and not too tight to bind.

Hi, I just got a Necchi #537FA it has never been used , however it has sat for some time the light comes on ,the belt runs, the bobbin will run but the nettle seems to be locked up will not move

It's an older mechanical machine that has not been used for a long time and probably has not been cleaned or oiled. It is seizing from old dry oil. Avoid using the machine until it has been oiled or the motor could be damaged.

Wheel on right side that controls the needle up and down is very tight...

Elna SU buttonhole- I can't remember the order to set the dials for the automatic button hole function. Anyone know? Thanks

sure, put on the buttonhole foot after putting a button into it and using the screw knob to set the length you want.
Turn stitch length knob and stitch width knobs to zero, (always set them to zero first to avoid wear on the stitch selection mechanisim) then turn the left stitch selector knob to the blue button hole symbol. Now turn middle knob stitch width, to the blue buttonhole symbol. Now turn right knob stitch length to blue 1, sew down the first side of your buttonhole until foot slide in the buttonhole foot reaches end stop. raise needle and turn stitch length to blue 2, and sew three bar tacks across buttonhole. Again, raise needle and then turn stitch length to blue 3 and sew back down otherside of buttonhole until you reach the end stop. Needle up, turn length know to blue 4 and sew three bartacks to end. there is a last blue symbol dot on stitch length knob, this will sew a stitch in place to tie off the ends. Raise pressure foot, remove your work and draw top threads to underside with a needle, and tie off or use a dot of fray stop. Done! if you don't have a manual you could email me and I'll send you a copy of mine, tallygirl98 at yahoo dot com.
