SOURCE: HOME THEATER SYSTEM SET UP

75 ohm coax cable generally does not carry 5.1 surround, you may need to see if your cable box has a 5.1 surround capability, the cable company will be able to help you on that .one other thing the receiver you are using (distribution) may need to have the source changed to the one from the cable box ie. fiber optic or coaxial (orange rca plug). red and white from the cable box does not carry 5.1 surround, only stereo. thanks for using fixya!

SOURCE: No Sound In Home Theater with Dish HDTV DVR Dual Mode Remote Connection

I have a high definition Polaroid tv which I bought in 2007. I have it connected to Dish tv. It worked fine at first. Now when I use the Dish tv remote, the television won't power up. The red light, which appears when the television is off turns blue when I attempt to turn the tv on, but the screen stays black. Why won't the television come on anymore?

SOURCE: sony home theater system started blinking protect

Protect mode will kicking whenever a fault is detected.

Causes that can start protect mode are:

Electrostatic harges on internal circuits.
Leave the unit unplugged for power for one hour or so, this will allow discharge.

Bad speaker wiring.
Check speaker wiring, try unplugging and plugging back, or start after removing one speaker at the time.

Internal fault.
Internal fault is the natural cause for protect mode. If all the above did not work, then the problem is a blown component or an internal fault. In this case the unit must be taken apart , tested and repaired by an experienced person.
If the unit is less than one year old, or if you want to get service, call Sony at the phone number listed on the product documentation.

Regards.

SOURCE: No surrond sound

TV's are not sources of multichannel audio. The best you'll get is stereo analog. Get the best TV-related audio from the same source the TV gets it - in this case the Cable Box.

No surround sound through tv

May be you have to set the Pro-logic option soundfield, this will matrix a 5.1 surround sound effect, unless of course you are sending a Dolby Digital 5.1 audio signal from your TV broadcast into the Home theatre system, also have to check the TV audio output to send audio output to a Home theatre system in other than 2 channel stereo.

Surround sound

Make sure the RCA cable is going from an audio OUT on TV or DirecTV box to a red/white (non-digital) audio IN on surround sound or home theater system.
