I bought 2 of these 1gb portable mp3 devices, the 1 works beautifully. The other device, after using it only twice. Tried to sync it to Musicmatch Jukebox v9 ... halway through it switched off and when I tried to power it up again, I got a message that there was a device error. Since then I am able to charge the device via usb port but the device remains unrecognizable. I've looked for drivers for the device but cannot find any. Also, I recognised the device SA178 as the device that I bought but on the packaging it is refered to as SA250 ???
Due to the sudden device switch off. the device might be damaged. these devices flas disk devices are highly fragile. it must be handled properly. if not data.device wil be lost. Get hardware support from the device manufacturers website. if all these not possible. try replacing the device..

It doesn;t have a virus. She plugged it into a computer that is running Windows Media Player 11, and now the player is toast. WMP 11 replaces a key system file in GoGear HDD models and some early SA models - like SA178.
Connect your mp3 player to the computer. Open the Philips Device Manager Run the Repair function. If the Device Manager does not recognize the player, connect the player to the computer (while the player is in the OFF position) while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the vol + button for 5-15 seconds until a window pops up on the computer screen that says Found New Hardware Wizard. Follow the directions and it will lead you to do a Repair in the Philips Device Manager. If this strategy doesn't work, your player is screwed. Call Philips and find out how to get an in-warranty replacement (or take it back to the store). -Tha Mp3 Doctor
Unplug mp3 player from computer. Go to Control Panel --> System --> Device Manager --> Uninstall MTP Device. Uninstall all Philips software. Reinstall Philips software from the CD or the Philips website. Replug mp3 player into computer. Good luck!
1) Make sure the usb charger is in the lock position before trying to charge.
2) Open Philips Device Manager and try repairing the device. [connect your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device working normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.]
3) after repair, perform a firmware upgrade ("Update" tab in Philips Device Mgr while GoGear is connected to computer - see Philips website for more details)
Worst case scenario - Even rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles. The battery for the SA178 is an LI-Polymer 300mAh 12-hr battery. Philips won't fix it for you, but you might want to find a local repair service.

Try reinstalling the software that came with the unit. Go into device manager & see if the unit shows there, & make sure there are no conflicts. Your owner's manual may also have a tech help number to call.
