wont print anything but test page

  • smithprint Mar 19, 2008

The green light in the middle stays on but doesn't flash when a print job is sent and of course it doesn't print. It was working properly until a page got stuck. I removed the page completely (by removing the print cartridge), replaced the cartridge properly (checked a number of times) and closed everything. The green light stays on but there is no reaction when a print job is sent. Feed paper is properly in posistion. Tried switching off the computer and the printer. No help. Same situation. Please suggest other steps.

Will only print when connected to my PC if I push print button on front of printer. When sending print job to printer, job enters queue then disappears as if printing, but no print, no blinking light on printer. I had "auto-updates" active on my PC for a while and suspect something got downloaded/installed and clobber a setting someplace. I have removed and reinstalled printer numerous times, removed/reinstalled lpt1 print port, tried downloading new driver...even cleaned registry. Still no printer. Just for kicks, I unplugged parallel cable and sent print job...job hit queue and remained there until I plugged cable back in.

I even installed printer on another XP...it works fine there!

    HELP!

The secret in the case of "smithprint" (me) turned out to be a loosening of the plug from the computer connection when I removed the jammed page. Pushed it in properly and everything worked properly.
So first step is always to check the cable connections - elec. supply and computer.
Elementary, but there are probably more ignoramuses out there besides me.

Had same problem as Guest posted on April 15, 2008. Using a solution found at another site, I:
1) unplugged power from the printer
2) disconnected printer cable from computer
3) plugged power back into the printer
4) printer completed its power-up steps and green light was solid once it finished (orange light was not on)
5) reconnected printer cable to computer

After that the printer worked great! Best wishes!!!

Hp LaserJet 1100- Toggle/ Re-plug in the power
That should print out the test page.
If it wont print anything else, then take out the catridge/toner, and check to see if anything is stuck in the inside, like little white plastic pieces. That should do it. It seems to be a manufacturing problem.

Hi, My HP laserjet prints only test page. I can't print anything else. Thank you in front.

Since you can print the TEST page, that indicates there is communication between computer and printer.

Each program/software on your computer such as Micro Soft Office and others need to be TOLD to use the specific printer.

Two things to look at:

1. Left click Windows START button
2. Left click Control Panel
3. Look for PRINTERS and select
4. Find your printer and make sure it has a GREEN check mark next to it (Default)
5. Then use one of your programs and try to PRINT
6. May have to tell your program to select AND print to specific printer

Get paper jam message, paper is marked at the begining of the sheet but not jammed. When select copy button ,there is no paper jam problem, only when print command is used to print a document

Please follow this instructions to resolve your issue.
Solution # 1 Power cycle the printer
  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Unplug the power cable at the back of the printer
  3. Wait for at least 1min.
  4. Plug the power cable again
  5. Print test page using the printer itself (press and hold the OK and HELP buttons on the front panel of the printer, until it will prints a test page, then release the buttons.)
If you still having that error message, please proceed to the next step.
Solution #2 Clear any jams on the printer itself
  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Please make sure that you will not take out any jammed papers in front of the printer, it can cause a mechanical damage on the printer.
  3. At the back of the printer, take out the access door.
  4. Clear any jammed papers, please make sure to clear the rollers.
  5. Print test page using the printer itself (press and hold the OK and HELP buttons on the front panel of the printer, until it will prints a test page, then release the buttons.)

If you still having that error message, please proceed to the next step.
Solution #3 Please make sure that the carriage will moves freely
  1. Turn off the printer
  2. Open the cartridge access door
  3. Disconnect the power cable at the back of the printer.
  4. Check for any paper or other object that might restrict the carriage movement.
  5. Reach inside the product through the cartridge access door, and then manually move the carriage.
  6. Remove any paper or objects you find that restrict the movement of the carriage.
  7. Make sure the carriage can move freely across the width of the product. Firmly push the carriage to the left, and then to the right.
  8. Close the cartridge access door.
  9. Reconnect the power cable to the rear of the product.
  10. Press the power button to turn on the printer.
  11. Print test page using the printer itself (press and hold the OK and HELP buttons on the front panel of the printer, until it will prints a test page, then release the buttons.)
If your still having issues with it you need to contact HP to have your printer replace, if your printer is still in warranty you don't need to pay for anything, but if the printer is out of warranty charges may apply. 1800-474-6836
Good luck :)

Printing multiple test pages

Check for a sticking button on the printer itself. The big Green button will produce a test print if pushed. Also try disconnecting it from the wall outlet overnight to reset it.

I don't know this personally, but you should be able to hit the power button and turn it off right after you load the cartridges. then power back on. That might do the trick.
