I know you can reset the cartridges. someone told me to use tape across the chips on each cartridge but this hasn't worked for me!
does anyone have any idea hos to get round this problem without buying reset chips and having to solder. I am a lady and no good with soldering irons!
please help.
You simply can't reset the chips by using tape on the contacts.
The 'chip' on the CLP-510 cartridges has a counter that is updated by the printer when it is used (even if it is only a single dot of that colour).
The ONLY way to reset these chips is to use s special device that writes data to the chip placing a ZERO into the page counter. Or to solder in a new chip. FACT.
The 'chip' also identifies the colour of the cartridge and its capacity. If you cover the contacts the printer doesn't know a cartridge is there, can't tell what colour it is, and can't tell what the capacity and current page count are.
If you use (say) a Cyan chip in a Black cartridge, it just won't work.
Chip resetter boxes are not cheap, being around £150, as they are intended for the cartridge re-manufacturers.
If you want to be able to re-fill your Samsung CLP-510 cartridges yourself, you'll just have to learn to use a soldring iron.
Put tape across the 3 contacts on the side of the cartridge, reinsert cart into printer, restart printer, holding down the Menu key until a message "Uncheck consumables" appears, then let Menu key up.
If you own a Raspberry Pi, then you can also use this open source tool to reset the toner cartridge:

I'm no expert, just reporting what i've done: my method above about the tape does work; however, if you do it with ALL 4 carts, it will result in the endless "processing" message and no printing. So yu will need to get a chip resetter (by buying a set of refills that includes one) or use the Dunfield method (Google it) which is fiddly, but did work for me.
Just go to Ebay and buy the chip resetter, works great every time.

Troubleshooting cleaning heads of reseting catridges
Hi,
I tried the tape over the contacts and the 'uncheck consumables' and it looks as if the printer is going to work, but then just sticks on 'processing' and doesn't actually print anything out. Any suggestions gratefully received! Thank you
Hi,
I've had CLP 500 cartridges converted to CLP 510 ones apparently - new chips put in. Still not working. Tried the tape over the chips and 'uncheck consumables' and it looks as it will work, but then doesn't actually print and gets stuck at 'processing'. Any help gratefully received! Thank you
I'm maintaining 2 samsung clp 510 printers at work. I was trying to
find a way to completely empty the toners before having to replace them
when I found this forum.
The tape thing was very helpful and it
had worked like a charm on one of them (big thanks are in order here :)
). My problem is that the same method does not work on the other
printer :\ I follow the same method, ie power down, press n hold menu
key, power on while holding, but I never get the "uncheck consumable
mode" message. The printer just proceeds to initializing and still
shows the "replace toner" messages.
I noticed a difference between
the two printers. When they power on they display on the screen some
info. The one that got "fixed" displays "os 1.17" and "engine 1.18",
while the other one shows "os 1.15" and "engine 1.17". I tried
downloading and installing the latest firmware from the samsung
website, but nothing changed.
Can anyone help? Those of you that
used the tape method and worked, could you tell me which version os and
engine your printer shows?
Thanks in advance.
