SOURCE: Faint red line across page when making color copies or printing in color from computer

Some possibilities are:

1) Dirt on the glass, dirt on the glass strip for the doc feeder, or dust on the mirrors. This would be the case if the line only showed when copying and not printing.

2) Toner dropped onto the charge sawtooth.
This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
Open the front door and remove the waste toner box. To the left of each drum there is a green organ-stop type stem. Pull and reinsert each stem. You will hear a zipping noise. These are your charge scrubbers.
This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

3) Toner or dust on the lens
This may be possible if the line is intermittent and only showed up for 1 or 2 colors.
In the area where the waste toner box goes, look for a grey stick with a white cushion on the end. This is your lens scrubber. Look in the area under the charge scrubber on each drum cartridge for a gap. Insert the scrubber cushion side down into the gap and run it forward and back to clean the lens.
This may be not as likely if the line shows up in the same place on all 4 colors

4) Transfer belt blade not cleaning
This is best handled by a service tech since the mylar belt is very fragile. The squeegee blade that cleans the transfer belt between copies is missing a spot. The blade needs to be taken off the belt, cleaned and repowdered. Recently, Sharp made changes to the composition and thickness of the mylar in the transfer belts. Overpowdering the blade or belt when it was changed may cause improper cleaning of the belt creating lines across the copies. Often the condition clears up after a couple of days as the gap between the blade and belt is sealed.
This is most likely the cause as the line shows up in the same area for more than 1 color.

5) Transfer belt and/or blade is worn out
If the belt is worn the blade must be replaced but not vice versa.

6) Clogged waste augers in the drum cartridges.
Waste toner may cake up in the drum cartridge and knock loose on the drum.

It may be time for full maintenance on the machine.

HP 722C has quit printing black in color draft

WORKAROUND: Select EconoFast or Draft as the print quality setting in the printer properties. This will prevent the color cartridge from being used. - Or - Try another color cartridge. The color cartridge is used to print grayscale images in Normal or Best print modes, so if one color has run out, the printout will have the wrong tint. With a full color cartridge, the colors can be properly combined to create a composite black. CAUSE: When printing with Normal or Best as the print quality setting, the HP Deskjet 710C or 720C or 722C series printer will use the color ink to improve print quality output, even when printing a grayscale image.

The black ink has stopped printing. Put in two different new cartridges and that doesn't seem to be the problem. It was first noticed when photos were printing out funny even after changing the color...

4. Print the document again to verify that print quality has improved.

Using the control panel

1. Press Menu.

2. Press the down arrow button until you highlight Clean Cartridge.

3. Press Select. A nozzle page prints, forcing ink through the nozzles to clean the clogged nozzles.

Print head is not printing seems to be clogged from non-use. Have tried test printing through several new cartridges and still not working. Can the old - dryed ink be cleaned off of the print heads?

Hi, below is from the brother website for your model. Very common for the ink heads to become clogged /dry out. You probably have done this but here it is anyway. your print head is part of the machine, so it will need to be disassembled to clean it, That can be very difficult. Try the following anyway, it might help you. also, you could try using a Q-Tip wet with vinegar water to get under to the bottom of the print heads, if you can get the head to move off its dock and then unplug it when its moved over. anyway here is the Brother link info (without pictures-see the link above if you need the pictures)

My mfc-240c won't print red, even with a new cartdrige.

Try running a few cleanings on the color.

Press the ink button and select cleaning,, do about five cleanings. Print the ink quality test page (from the ink button as well) and see the quality if it improved.

If it still doesnt print its possible the ink is clogged and may need servicing to replace the printer head

All colours and black print faded. Black is a

ANSER #1

Assuming that you are using original Canon cartridges or a brand of Compatibles that you have used before.

If print results are blurred, colors are faded or not printed correctly, the pint head nozzles are probably clogged.

Follow the procedure below to print the nozzle check pattern, check the print head nozzle condition, then clean the Print Head. You may have to do this 2 or 3 times.

If printed ruled lines are misaligned or print results are otherwise unsatisfactory, aligning the Print Head may improve print quality.

Caution Do not rinse or wipe the Print Head and ink tanks. This can cause trouble with the Print Head and ink
tanks.

Note Before performing maintenance
Open the Top Cover and make sure that all lamps on the ink tanks are lit red.
If not, see Checking the Ink Status and take an appropriate action.
Increasing the print quality in the printer driver settings may improve the print result.

Unable to print BLACK

The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will display the date and time. Print the Print Quality Check Sheet and see if all colors are present:

    1. Press the Ink Management key.
    2. Use the up or down navigation key to select TEST PRINT.
    3. Press Set to confirm your choice.
    4. Use the up or down navigation key to select PRINT QUALITY.
    5. Press Set to confirm your choice. Press the Color(Colour) Start key to print the Test Sheet.
If one or more of the colors is still missing from the printed page, cleaning the print head may resolve this problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, three colors at a time (CYAN, YELLOW, and MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then select ALL. Follow the steps listed below to clean the print head:

Cleaning the Print Head
  1. Press the Ink Management key.

  2. Use the up or down navigation key to select CLEANING.

  3. Press Set to confirm your choice.

  4. Use the up or down navigation key to select the color that is not printing
    -OR-
Select ALL if more than one color is not printing.

  5. Press Set to confirm you choice.

  6. The machine should begin cleaning automatically, and the LCD will alternately show "CLEANING" and "PLEASE WAIT". When the machine completes its cleaning cycle, the LCD will display the date and time.

  7. Test by printing the "Print Quality Check Sheet":

If one or more of the ink colors is still missing from the printed page, repeat the print head cleaning steps listed above up to 4 more times. After each cleaning, print the Print Quality Check Sheet to see if there is any improvement.

I hope it helps!!!
