This camera has a feature called:

i.LINK DV Interface
A digital high-speed bidirectional interface, which provides audio/video communication between two compatible devices. This connection allows for pure digital transfer between devices equipped with an IEEE1394 interface, such as camcorders, digital VTRs, capture cards, and PCs.
First, you need to find out if you have a firewire input on your computer .Look in the back of your cpu and check.
Then you need a cable to connect the camcorder to the pc.
.Then you are going to need a decent video editing software, from ulead, pinnacle, final cut pro, etc.
Then you can plug into the USB and directly download it .

SOURCE: Camcorder to Mac Sony dcr-hc32

Maybe this FAQ will help ya? Problem: Camcorder will not connect to iMovie - No camera attached Possible Solutions: * Are you using a 4 to 6 pin firewire cable? That is the ONLY thing you can use. No USB cables or anything else * Are you using a compatible camera? Still cameras that take movies are NOT a DV camera * How new is the cable? If it is pretty old or you have kinked, it you may need another one * Is the camera in DV mode? It should be. (Usually in the menu options somewhere) * Have read ALL of Apples help topics on this If your good with all the above: 1. Close iMovie 2. Delete all iMovie plist files for iMovie located in Home/Library/Preferences 3. Plug the camera in to the wall (electricity) 4. Make sure you have a good firewire cable and plug it in to the Mac from the camera 5. Turn off your camera 6. Reset your pram 7. When the Mac is booting, power on the camera 8. Start iMovie Sony camcorder special fixs: 1. Turn your camcorder to Play mode. 2. Press menu button (or relevant touch-screen button) 3. Click the 'ETC' item and then to CONTROL. 4. Select i-link (and not IR). or 1. Turn your camcorder to Play mode. 2. Press the Menu button (or relevant touch-screen button) 3. Scroll down the Menu to the 'ETC' option, if there is one 4. Click the 'ETC' item and choose 'VIDEO EDIT' if it's there 5. Click 'VIDEO EDIT' and 'MARK 1 IN' may appear 6. Click on 'MARK 1 IN' and then exit from the Menu options, by pressing the Menu button again Your Sony cam should now work OK with iMovie. * Reason? The camera and Mac can't decide which device is giving the FireWire instructions, and which is supposed to be receiving and acting on them. Using this sequence (above) lets the camera receive instructions from iMovie.

SOURCE: How do I import video

You don't. According to Sony, your camera will not stream video via the USB port. You can only do this using the i.Link connection (what everyone but Sony calls Firewire). The list of camera models that will stream via USB, and the method to do it, is on THIS LINK Your camera is not in the list.

Most PCs have a USB port, but no Firewire port. Macs often have a Firewire port but may not have USB. As most Windows PCs do not come with this interface, you might need to fit an add-on Firewire interface card. This will come with a driver for the card. Or maybe you have a Mac. You haven't said.

Suitable Firewire (DV) cables can easily be found on Amazon or eBay. You will need the kind with a small (four pin) connector at one end and a larger (six pin) connector at the other. My camera came with the correct lead.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading video to computer at THIS LINK You will need to select your operating system, then Mini-DV as the camera type, then select the type of connection. As you will see, the USB option warns that it won't work with many cameras, and you are strongly recommended to use i.Link (which everyone else calls Firewire).

SOURCE: i cannot copy the video

The USB streaming driver for theCamcorder is not available from Sony at this point. Hence it is not possible totransfer videos using USB interface. You may use i.LINK or A/V interface totransfer videos from the Camcorder to the Computer which is running on WindowsVista Operating System. Please follow the steps to transfer video to a computerusing an i.LINK connection (IEEE 1394).

IMPORTANT: Video capture software and a compatible video capture card mustbe installed on the computer. Depending on the computer manufacturer, variousvideo capture cards and software (Adobe Premiere, Roxio Video Wave, MicrosoftWindows Movie Maker, etc.) may be available or already installed on yourcomputer. If necessary, contact the manufacturer of your computer for furtherinformation. NOTE: Many Sony VAIO computers are bundled with Sony DVgate Motion or DVgatePlus software for video capturing. Some VAIO computers also include Click ToDVD software that will allow video capture to the computer hard drive ordirectly to a DVD.

  1. Connect an i.LINK cable (also known as IEEE 1394) to the i.LINK port on the digital camcorder.
i.LINKCable.

i.LINKport.
rsshajan_23.jpg
  1. Connect the other end of the i.LINK cable to the computer.
NOTE: The computer i.LINK ports and capture cardsmay have either 4-pin or 6-pin connections. Sony digital camcorders use i.LINKports with 4 pins. If your computer only has a 6-pin i.LINK port, then it willbe necessary to use a 4-pin to 6-pin i.LINK cable.
  1. Turn on the digital camcorder by moving the POWER switch to the VTR position.
  2. Cue the camcorder tape to the beginning of the video footage.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Start the video capture software on the computer.
  5. Begin playing the recorded video in the camcorder.
  6. Begin importing the video with the capture software.
It should now be possible to copy the video usingthe video capture software if the computer hardware and software are configuredcorrectly.

Camera

I am assuming you meant your video (not just pictures) - you need a firewire cable - I have same camera - I use a firewire cable (4pins on each end) and connect to my IBM Laptop with Vista - vista does everything else to capture.

If you need to transfer photographs from the flash memory card -- I suggest the best way is to remove the flash memory card and use a USB flash card reader that you can hook up to your computer.

You may be able to do these otherways by installing the Sony software that comes with this camera - or can be downloaded from Sony website.

Sony DCR-HC32

Check the camera's menu, it may be set improperly. Beyond that, I'd get in touch with Sony (see their website first).
