My father in law has a Dell Windows 7 PC. He would liketo get Windows 10 for it when available. I have tried to download the app so that I can get the Windows 10 reservation. I get an error message saying that Windows is not activated when I try to download the app for Windows 7. He bought the computer about a year ago used. The Windows Activation service key sticker was peeled off prior to his purchase. He is getting automatic updates, etc. He has never gotten a prompt to activate Windows. I think Windows is already activated but not under his name. I can't get the activation number since the sticker was mostly peeled off. There is no back up disc or box as it was purchased used, cheaply. The computer works great but he would like to have Windows 10 if he can get it for free. Any ideas on how I can get Windows 10 reserved for this computer? Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

The sticker was removed because the key had been use previously. If you right click on Compute/My Computer and left click properties, at the bottom it will tell u whether or not your copy is activated. If it doesn't say it's activated you can't activate it. Since it's already been confirmed by Microsoft. In order to get windows 10 upgrade your previous system has to be valid. The media creation tool requires a valid windows 10 installation key.

First option would be to visit dell.ca for DELL models to see if your PC is compatible for a Windows 10 update.

You can upgrade to windows 10 if you want just download the "media creation tool" and run it....it will ask for two options
(1) upgrade to windows 10
(2) download ISO file
I downloaded the ISO file (home edition) because I basically format and when I format using windows 10 at the start it asks for windows key which I don't have so I skip that and install the windows 10.. For the Key I used a crack named "KMS Auto Net- windows 10 crack" and just applied the crack and it works fine :D
