It is probably the connectors connecting the screen to the bottom part where the CPU is. My portable Wii screen does the same thing. If you can live with it, your OK, but you might need a new DS. I recommend a DSi!
my mates ds lite happened the same too. the only thing you can do is...
1. send it back to nintendo if its insuared
2. buy a new one
3. try and fix it yourself (mate used sellotape)
If this does not help, you may need to send your DS in for service. The problem may be something with the hardware where only professionals should be performing maintenance on.
Give a call to Nintendo's 1-800-255-3700 (6 am - 7 pm Pacific, everyday) Customer Service number, or use their web form ( http://www.nintendo.com/corp/contact.jsp ) to contact them, and they can set up the repair process for you.
If you see lines on either screen of your Nintendo DS Lite during game
play, then it is likely one or more of the components that create
the image on the screen are damaged. This can occur if there has
been an impact -- such as being dropped or hit -- to the Nintendo
DS Lite's screens. Phone 1-800-255-3700 to discuss available repair options and they will be grateful to assist you at any time of need.Important Note: If you are seeing lines on the
screen that slowly fade away after turning off the system, this
is normal.
