I replaced the computer because it was not firing the 2 front injectors on the 2.2. The truck did run, but you had to flutter the gas pedal to keep it running, and obiviously couldn't drive it. After the security light problem, I put the old processor back in and the truck started. Put the new processor in again, same problem with security light.I replaced the computer because it was not firing the 2 front injectors on the 2.2. Does it start and die after 1-2 seconds or just cranks and never fires? Did it run before you installed the computer or are you trying to cure a no start problem?

As part of the security system is embedded in the engine management ECU (ECM) the ECU has to recognise the code sent from the immobiliser before it will switch on and perform its functions.
Sometimes when ordering a replacement ECU using the vin from the dealer it will arrive programmed with the correct code but this is unlikely with aftermarket replacements and consequently reprogramming of the system will be required.
Yes they do have anti-theft system systems ! Are there any lights lit or flashing on the Dash , anything like SECURITY ? Turn on the headlamps , are they bright ? When you try to start the car do the lights get dim ? In the under hood fuse / relay box is a starter relay .If you knew how you could test for power an control an even try jumping pin 30 an 87 to see if the engine cranks over ! If you look on the side of the relay there is a diagram of what number the pins are ! Should be pin 30 that's battery + voltage , Pin 87 goes to the starter , Pins 85 an 86 are the control side of the relay ! One of them has battery + voltage also an the other is control from the PCM - powertrain control module - engine computer ! There is also the transmission range sensor or park neutral switch. If it's not in park or neutral it won't let it start either !
Year make model.
Some cars have security chips in key, around ignition switch, or around gear shifter. If your cars security light stays on and wont start something in 1 of those 3 keeping it from starting.
More then likely it's your key.
The security key setup has resisters that slowly lose the resistance required to start the car.
You can call the dealership and give them the VIN they should be able to assist you.
If not then you will have to get a new ignition
My first thought was the security system, but you say the light is not staying on or flashing. So my next thought is the transmission select switch. The computer may not know which gear the trans is in. Will it crank in neutral ?
put a new ignition switch in and leave the ignition inthe on position untill she cranks and let thge key go and leave it a head untill the light stops flashing
security on means your passlock sensor is probably at fault.. you will need the who key barrel and sensor to be changed and reprogrammed. can be done yourself but not easy.
first remove old system and replace new assembly. might be easier to replace the whole column switch and all. once you have changed the parts you now have to reprogram cylinder into computer.
now you might want to hookup a battery charger for this next step
now turning key to crank then leave key on to ignition security light will flash
after 10 minutes the light will stop flashing and then stay on.
now turn key off wait 5 secs.
then turn key to start again then again leave key in ignition.for 10 minutes
you will repeat these steps three times. the fourth time the engine shold turn over and start.
Body Control Module (BCM) on both counts. Find a shop in your town that specializes in electrical systems to test it. Beware, these can be intermittent problems, so make sure they keep it until the car does what you have observed. Expect to spend about $450 for the replacment. Dealers quoted me between $700 and $1,100 for the same repair. By the way, a new BCM will probably only last you about 12 months.
