Disconnect the power locate the motor. Remove the belt. Try turning the motor by hand that's a turn kind of hard lubricate both spindles with some WD-40 maybe even some penetrating oil then turn it as you spread if it loosens up you know it was a lubrication problem if not then you have to replace motor or the bel remove the belt. What if you replace the belt and turn it on but you only hear a slight humming sound?

you probably need to check the belt safety switch, if this washer has one as I'm thinking only dryers may have this feature? the switch is a safety feature that shuts off the appliance in the event of bad or broken belt. it may be defective or just need to be connected. check it with a meter with the button on it pushed in and u should get an OHMS reading of continuity showing a closed circuit Otherwise u may have a bad motor. usually humming means burned out motor.

Hotpoint TDC62p is making a buzzing/humming sound and the drum will not spin though it does move if you push it.

Either something is binding the blower wheel up or the motor is bad. The best thing is to take the front of the machine off to access the blower wheel to verify ifanything is indeed binding it.IF not read the next section.
If you can turn the drum and then the dryer starts you have a bad motor. The way the dryer works is when you initially push the start button, electricity is sent to the start winding, or stator, of the motor. This will in turn start the motor turning. From there the stator will drop out of the electrical process and at the same time the run winding, or rotor, will take over and the motor will continie to run. Your stator is damaged, has a burn spot, etc so by you turning the drum, the belt around the drum is moved which is attached to the motor pulley. You basically take the place of the stator. Long story short, you have a bad motor.

Whirlpool Stylemaster 4217141 tub not moving wash/spin cycles

Sounds like the drive belt is broken or very loose. Take off the back and check the belt. If loose or missing, tighten or replace. This is usually done by loosening the motor support bolts and moving the motor until the belt is tight, then re-tighten the bolts. Replace belt in the same way.
