How can i research license plates on a used car that i may buy

The license plate lamps are designed to illuminate the plate and registration tags on your vehicle and make it easily visible to law enforcement. In many states, a burnt out license plate bulb can get you a ticket.
Step 1: Locate the license plate light. The license plate light is located right above the plate.
Step 2: Determine which bulb has failed. Park your vehicle and set the emergency brake. Turn the ignition to the Accessory position and turn on the driving lights. Walk around the vehicle to determine which license plate bulb has failed.
Step 3: Remove the license plate light cover. Remove the license plate light cover retaining screws using a screwdriver.
Remove the license plate light cover.

• Note: You may need to use a small screwdriver to pry the cover off.

Step 4: Remove the bulb. Remove the bulb from its retainer.
Part 2 of 2: Install the bulb Materials Needed

• Protective gloves
• Replacement license plate light bulb
• Safety glasses
• Screwdriver

Step 1: Install the new bulb. Install the new bulb in its retainer and ensure it is in place.

• Tip: Refer to your car's user manual to determine the correct type of light bulb to get for your specific vehicle.

Step 2: Complete the installation. Put back the license plate light cover and hold it in place.
Install the license plate light cover retaining screws and tighten them using a screwdriver.
Step 3: Check the lights. Turn on your car to check if your license plate lights are fully functional.

License Plate Lamp Removal and Installation

1. If necessary, remove the license plate.

1. Remove the pin-type retainers and the luggage compartment lid trim panel.

1. Disconnect the license plate lamp electrical connector.

1. Remove the lamp socket from the license plate lamp.

1. Using a suitable tool, through the access hole, release the clips and remove the license plate lamp.

Normally there are screws already holding your old plate in there...(4 corners)
If your car doesn't have plate, usually the front bumper has a license plate bracket on it- normally it is 2 parts : 1 fastened to your car, the other comes off and you put your plate in between them and screw all of them back together.

If your car doesn't have a bracket, then it's prob a new bumper, so you can go buy one and you just drill it on (it'll have instructions if you have to buy 1) Just make sure you center it and it's straight.

4. Pull the bracket and lamp unit away from the rear body sheet metal far enough to access and disconnect
the body wire harness connector (1) from the connector on the back of the bracket and lamp unit housing.
5. Remove the bracket and lamp unit from the vehicle.

hi, yes, you can buy an universal license plate mounting frame at any auto part store, it comes with all the hardware you need, you can use a tape measure and small level to get it centered....

industrial grade double sided tape works, then its impossible to remove the plates again

if you buy some of those "on tv only" lights that are bubble shaped and plastic, you can duct tape those onto your license plate area and click them on or off when needed.

there is an actual liscence plate bracket u can buy at a chrysler dealership thats fits perfectly on bumber it has teeth that perfectly center the bracket right below the grill it looks great i just had one put one on my 2005 300
