I'm a girl...I need a little more info, LOL. So you're saying that the compression test should read 170psi in each valve? What if it doesn't? 30-40psi less in all 8 seems coincidental?

Excuse me...in each cylinder! SORRY...remember, I'm a girl and trying to tinker in a man's domain...It's s really cheap tester from Harbor freight, maybe it isn't working well either...I dunno

The definition of BMEP is: the average (mean) pressure which, if imposed on the pistons uniformly from the top to the bottom of each power stroke, would produce the measured (brake) power output.
Please note that BMEP is purely theoretical and has NOTHING to do with ACTUAL CYLINDER PRESSURES. It is simply a tool to evaluate the efficiency of a given engine at producing torque from a given displacement.

I need the cylinder compression for a 2000 2.2 liter toyots solara

Generally speaking the number you need is the average of all cylinders, then no more than + or - 10%.
I would say if you have 100psi in all cylinders you are ok as long as none of the cylinders are more than 10 or 20 psi off from that.

What is the factory specified max. compression, new motor, GM 4.3 ltr, V6

Interpreting the Results
of the Engine Compression Test. The idea behind the Engine Compression Test (in the case of a Misfire Condition or Rough Idle Condition) is to find out if any one engine cylinder is not contributing 100% of its power to the overall engine output. If only one cylinder has lower than normal compression, your GM 4.3L (or 5.0L, 5.7L) equipped vehicle will run rough or cause a Misfire Code to set and turn on the Check Engine Light.
So then, to wrap things up, the individual cylinder compression readings of each engine cylinder can not vary more than 15%... and this is how you can find out:
  1. 1Grab a calculator and multiply the highest compression reading that you recorded by .15.

So, let's say that cylinder #4 gave you the highest reading of 170 PSI. Well 170 X .15 gives you 26 (25.5 rounded off).
  2. 2Now, the next step is to subtract 26 from 170... which gives us 144 PSI.
  3. 3So then, 144 PSI is the lowest possible compression reading that any one of the rest of the engine cylinders can have. Any compression reading below this.. and that engine cylinder will misfire..

1995 toyota will die and will not start until engine is cold

Your problem sounds like either your fuel pump is cutting out when hot,,or the condencer or coil or you are losing compression due to piston rings worn or broken.
So first get a compression test if all cylinders are around 110 cold then check again when hot they should be up by 20 psi even if 1 or 2 cylinders are down to 80 it could be valve problem so get a WET and DRY test done, but once you have ruled out the compression and its ok then you need to look further.

Let me know how you go. RON

I need to know what the stock compression pressure in psi should be on a 1991 mercury grand marquis 302 5.0L, I dont want the ratio, I need the psi. What was it from factory?

This engine offered a 4-inch bore, 3-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 8.9 to 1.

each cylinder should have the plugs removed, and each cylinder should have atleast 150 psi, with no more than a 10% difference between the 8 cyl .

most engines period will cary atleast 90 to 180 psi depending on the number of cyl.

I have a 2001 Lexus rx 300 with a check engine light on with code P0301 cylinder 1 misfire. The spark plugs and ignition coils were already replaced. I swapped fuel injectors with known good cylinder and...

The minimum compression required is 95 psi, below this there is no good combustion, incusive the spark plug gets wet in gasoline
If this condition exists, you should check the piston rings and cylinder surface

What is the cylinder compression psi fpr the 2.0 liter engine

usual on 4 cylinder around 175psi.225psi is very high for your car,150psi seems ok,you may have two problems.A leaking head gasket and high compression due to carbon build up on the pistons.Check your Hyundai Dealer to see is this problem is covered under their 100,000 mile warranty,it should be.IF not then
the head needs to come off and had gasket replaced along with clean the top of pistons since they are right there, sounds like and easy fix.also check condition of radiator, and I would rec. replacing thermostat since some Hyundai models had problems with their thermostats
