External keyboard doesn't work properly. When I press the "e" or "w" key, it types "we"-- s key types "sd" -- x key types "xc" -- there are several others that do the same thing. How can I fix it?

Make sure usb legacy mode is on in your bios settings if option available; if you use an external kbd due to internal one's failure then the internal probably causes interference and jams the keymaping you should detach it's flex cable from the motherboard in this case (needs experience and a lot of attention) heres an example on how to remove keyboard on a random machine (but remember each machine has it own way to remove so you'd better search for a specific tutorial for your's)

Compaq CQ60 some keys not working

The keyboard maybe faulty.
Connect an external keyboard to youe laptop and if all the key work on this keyboard then most like the laptop keyboard is faulty.
If this external keyboard also malfunctions then the keyboard controller chip on the laptop motherboard is faulty and it would not be worth repairing as this is an old model laptop.

When i type 'e' i get 'we', 'd' get 'sd', 'c' get 'xc'

Greetings,

Did you take your keyboard apart? It sounds like the rubber mat under the keys is slightly off and when you push a letter it is registering the letter and the one to the left of it. I recommend making sure this is aligned properly.

This should be leakage in the keyboard touching sensors. Cleaning inside the keyboard may resolve this issue, otherwise you need to replace the keyboard.

It's much more cost-effective to just replace the keyboard than to hire a technician to try to make any attempt at a repair.

please check for a the ( Fn) key which is found next to the left side ctrl marked by a blue colour. cleck to see if this is jammed as only by holding the fn key down will the alphabets change to numerical. If the fault is persisting again open your keyboards settings and check for default settings. Also try to reinstall the drivers or else restore you computer to an earlier good restore point by clicking on control panel, select back up /restore. I hope this clears your fault. Good day.

Hello,
I am convinced. If the situation were not serious I would say that you invented a new language.
It seems that the letters concerned are aligned in two columns. Possible that the wires are not well electrically isolated. I would suggest you try to clean the keyboard with a soft brush or compressed air. If that does work you should have the keyboard repaired. Was some electolytic liquid (salt water, orange juice) spilled on the keyboard by any chance?

Hope it helps.
