My HP J4580 will only print color. How do I fix it so the black will print?

Only printing color. The black ink will not print.

Check black ink cartrigde. Remove it and press a kleenex over the ink outlet of the head, If you can't see a well defines black mark your cartrige has a problem with the ink.
If it's charged, you should take it to a recharging center and ask them to unstuck it using ultrasound

How to check ink levels in a HP officejet J4580 printer

Checking ink levels
  1. open HP solution center on the computer desktop screen
  2. click on settings on the bottom
  3. click printer toolbox
  4. click the estimated ink levels tab
or
  1. on the printer control panel,push the wrench button
  2. press the right arrow to go to print report
  3. push OK
  4. select self test
  5. push OK
It will print a page with color bars signifying correct ink levels.If a color bar is blank it means it's empty or depleted and needs to be replaced

Black ink cartridge almost empty in just two days of use..why?

its all in simple math, when you go to by new ink cartridges it should tell you how many pages on average it should be able to print so price/page*15=cost to print a day

hi i dont have the tricolor cartridge in my hp 5610 and i want to work only with black cartridge and my printer says there is no cartridge on the left , is it posible to solve this problem and work with one cartridge only ? i can print but copy and fax doesnt work . thanx

hi, 

its becoz even if ur print contains only black text in it, while printer printing in black it needs a cyan or yellow ink to give very clear print out. work around for this issue, go to the printer icon and right click and go printing preferances and change the option to print only in blak or print only in gray scale. it should resolve ur issue............

Can not scan or print

I woudl try to reinstall the inc cartriges. Sound like a bad electricial connection feom one on them.
