The red light that comes on and the freezer not freezing could indicate a few possible issues:
Temperature setting: Check to make sure that the temperature setting in the freezer is set correctly. If the temperature is set too high, the freezer may not freeze properly.
Thermostat: The thermostat may be malfunctioning, which can cause the freezer to stop freezing. You may need to have it replaced.
Evaporator fan: If the evaporator fan is not working, it can cause the freezer to stop freezing. You can check to see if the fan is running by listening for it or feeling for air flow in the freezer. If it's not running, it may need to be replaced.
Condenser coils: Dirty or clogged condenser coils can cause the freezer to stop freezing. You can clean the coils with a vacuum or brush.
If you've tried all of these troubleshooting steps and the problem persists, it may be best to contact a professional technician to diagnose and repair the issue.
You either have a bad evaporator (cooling coil) fan motor or a failure of one of the defrost system parts. This would cause the evaporator to freeze up and block air from going to the freezer.
you probably have a plug in the drain line that normally drains the water when your freezer goes into the defrost mode. at the base of the refrigerator there is a evaporative drain tray where the water drains from the freezer into the tray and evaporates during normal operation of the unit. You should be able to see the drain tube just above the tray. Attach a hose to it and use compressed air to blow through it and clear it out.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload
relay. Check to see if the
condenser fan at the back underneath near the compressor is running. If no
check fan.
Are the condenser coils near there warm or room temp. should
be warm
Is the evaporator fan in the freezer running. It blows cold
air into the fridge side through a damper in the wall between the freezer and
fridge. Make sure the damper is open.
Below the evaporator fan is the evaporator coils. Remove the
back cover in the freezer to observe the frost pattern. Light frost everywhere(NORMAL)
or a partial pattern of ice(LOW ON FREON) or nothing(LOW FREON OR COMPRESSOR
PROBLEM).
Look for frost build up on back wall at bottom the auto defrost may be out. Check if the evaporator fan is blowing. If not it's stuck by something or needs replaced. If not The sealed system may have a leak or restiction causing it to only work closest to the evaporator i.e. the lower shelf.
Are both evaporator fan and condensor fan running? You stated that you topped off the charge.Assuming the charge is ok, the next thing to check would be the expansion valve.May not be metering the freon properly.A faulty expansion valve can trick you into thinking the unit is undercharged. It may be partially open and starving the evaporator.(Not freezing the water totally)You should have a even coating of frost on the evaporator coil when running.Hope this helps, let me know if i can assist you any further.
