UNIT WILL NOT COME ON WITH EITHER THE WALL INLET OR THE SWITCH ON THE UNIT. GREEN LIGHT IS ON.

UNPLUGGED THE UNIT. WHEN I REPLUG, YOU HEAR A SPLIT SECOND OF NOISE AND VIBRATION FROM THE UNIT. ANY SUGGESTION IF THIS IS A CONTROL BOARD, OR MOTOR PROBLEM.

Just failed, or just installed, gee, wiz

well do so with the bottom off an filter off first. (jammed up)
is the fan free to turn. 2nd.
that means 2 things bad , motor or controls.
I assume its wired correctly to the service panel AC.
do you want us to toss a coin, like done here.
    ?
    why?
what you can do is use a AC voltmeter.
    at the motor.
see if it has full power turned on,
if not the controller is bad.

    AC in, ok
    controller manual switch closed.
controller out 0vdc or low, controller bad.

a $20 voltmeter is an amazing device.

the motor is 2.5 HP horse power, 12.5amps 120vac
    big.
make sure the fan is not blocked first.
takes looking to see that, power off, at the breaker, 2.5HP can cut hands horribly.
then if wise use stick of wood to turn the fan. blades, (safety first)
the power panel breaker is 15amp dedicated, is it?
    with the breaker off.
    reach up use flashlight !
hand turn the blade. if stuck well now you know why the controller discovered that and shut down.
if you run this system with no filter
the fan will suck in JUNK and jam.
    dont do that.

Eureka boss central vac

Sounds like a problem with a relay switch in the unit. It could be a bad relay switch, or a bad transformer that powers the relay. It delivers power to the switch. If all that is good the next culprit might be a broken wire in the hose. The relay problems are not a hard fix if you know what you are doing and you have the right parts. Otherwise best left for a service person. If it is the hose it might be a bit more expensive to replace.

How to diagnose a clog in your Central Vac and how to remove it

Symptoms of a clog
Low Suction/No Suction
No suction at Inlet

Tools required
Wet/Dry Vac or vacuum with decent suction and a hose
Phillips Head Screw Driver
Metal Coat hanger (straightened out)
Flashlight

First things, first, make sure your canister is empty at the unit. I know, most people would have already checked this but I have been to a lot of client's homes and this was the issue. They were full or almost full. So just check it before you go to do anymore diagnosing. I suggest emptying it anyways, this way you can see what you clogged in your unit

Now if your machine has a utility valve on the unit turn on the manual over ride switch on and lift the utility valve and if you have suction your machine is fine, you have a clog. If you have no suction or poor suction
-Canister not attached properly
-Filter clogged
-There is a disconnect of pipe within your walls (I've seen it and it renders your system useless and is going to be expensive to repair the system)
-Your motor is going in your system (Your vacuum should sound like grinding metal and chances are it's throwing sparks and smells of burning electrical, turn the unit off immediately and unplug power cord) Your unit will need a new motor or you will need to replaced the whole unit. Sometimes can be cheaper to replace the unit.

So now back on track here, we are going to say the vacuum has great suction and is running smoothly.

Check your hose for clogs, easiest ways are to plug the hose into the utility valve and turn on the machine manually at the switch.
If you do not have a utility valve on your unit (this is where the other vacuum comes into play) plug your central vacuum hose on the end of the shop vac hose. Most hoses are standard and slip right on over the end of a shop vac's hose end (1 1/4 inch end). Turn on your shop vac and feel the suction at the end. It may not be as powerful as your CV but it should be comparable.

If the hose checks out to be free and clear we have a clogged system.

Now lets move to the inlets throwout your home, first we are going to plug our hose into the inlet that is nearest to the unit. If there is little or no suction we know there is an issue either in the distance between the nearest inlet or there is an open/broken valve.

Open/Broken valve (CV will not provide optimum suction with a open/broken valve)
-Plug the hose in and activate unit
-Check all inlets for proper seal, you will hear an annoying whistle or you will hear a gust of air from an improper inlet door closure. (Do this as quick as possible, if it is a clog you are putting strain on your motor, but if you vacuum on a regular basis chances are you know if there are whistling noises or missing pieces of an inlet. If you are missing an inlet door, replace the inlet. If all is checked out to be good, lets go back to unclogging again.

If there is suction at this inlet you know there is no clog between this inlet in the unit, try all inlets from nearest to farthest away. If you try your next inlet and have weak to no suction you found your point of a clog. This is where you will start to unclog your unit.

Take the hose end of your shop vac and insert it into your inlet. Turn the shop vac on and remove the hose quickly to create a seal and lose a seal. You should start to hear items moving through the line.

Now take your CV hose and insert it into this inlet, activate your CV and check suction if there is more suction, your slowly making progress.

Take a flashlight and look into the inlet to see if you can now see the obstruction. If you can, get your coat hanger out and go fishing. It may be easier to remove the inlet from the wall. Your basic valve is safe to remove. If you have a supervalve, do not remove, there is high current installed in the upper portion of the inlet for your power nozzle.

Repeat the Shop Vac suction and stop and the CV suction and stop until you clear your items.

This is going to take a few minutes of tugging between two vacuums. Eventually it will free if it went in, it has to come out. At the end of the day your basically playing tug of war between your Shop Vac and CV. But if all goes to plan, the clog will end up in your shop vac or in your CV unit.

Good Luck!

Nutone Scovill 350 will only turn off if unplugged

Some units have an on/off switch on the power unit itself. Check to make sure that is not turned on. Unplug your power unit and remove the 2 low voltage wires (not the power cord itself) . The low voltage wires start at the unit and run throught your home and attach to each hose inlet. They are usually attached to the unit by simple wire terminals or wire capped to small wires coming out. Just unlug the terminals or unscrew the wire caps and pull the connections apart. Plug your machine back in. If it still comes on the problem is the relay or circuit board/switch/ relay assembly inside the unit. If it doesn't come on with the low voltage wires unattached then you may have two wires touching somewhere in the low voltage wiring.

A Nutone CV-450 System with inlet nozzle switch issues

You are suffering a connection problem of the hose end fitting to the wall outlet. Either the hose is not aligned with the two pins in the wall outlet, or the pins in the outlet are dirty and not making good connection to the hose end fittting.

Hi we have a central vacum system (canister). Sometimes when you plug in the hose it works fine othertimes it doesn't work?

There are two types of coupling that plug in. One has a solid metal ring. There are two metal electrical **** inside of the inlet. When you press the coupling into the inlet the metal ring completes the circuit. If the ring or the **** are badly tarnished, they may have to be scrubbed before they complete the circuit.
The other type of coupling has a double split. There is a switch on the wand that completes the circuit from one side of the split to the other. If when inserted, this split lines up on one of the **** and the *** doesn't touch either part of the ring, then it is not going to operate either.
Give me some feed back if that doesn't fix it.

Outlet does not engage unit

I would try to remove the inlet from the wall and tighten the screws that the low voltage wires connect to. If that doesn't work I would buy a new inlet. They are very easy to change out and relatively inexpensive. The inlets are readily available online.

Pushing in the hose to the inlet receptacle on the wall does not initiate vacuum suction

check the electrical contacts around the tip of the hose.Check another wall inlet around the house and see if it starts. If it does starts in another inlet than there is a problem with the wiring at the inlet where is not starting. If the vacuum does not start in any inlet check the power button at the vacuum location and the fuse. Also I should mention that if your brush have an on and off button you should check that is on.

Old Nutone central vac system turned itself on and ran for hours.

if your unit normally turns on when you open the flap on the wall inlets then you should check each inlet for a switch or a button, sometimes those buttons can get loose and fall into the wall making the unit stay on. if your unit normally turns on when you plug the hose into the inlet then it would probably be a relay usually on the main tank itself try locating them and gently tapping on them with the rubber end of a screwdriver to see if you can un-stick them.

Unplugged while unit was on by mistake and now it will not turn off with switch

it sound like you have pulled the wire to tight and it has shorted the switch inside the vacuum, so the wires are connecting, to cure this unplug from power supply and remove the cover to the switch and relocate it into its slot where it should originally should go, of course the housing to which the switch locates may now be damaged, but you should be able to stop the wires from touching and this will let you work the vacuum properly

secure the cable again where it comes out of the machine
