My ac is set on 70 auto, but it's 80 degrees in my home and the air feels like a fan coming out the vents. Also every morning I wake up to a frozen ac unit outside and inside unit also freezes to.

There are only two things that cause an evaporator coil to freeze.
1. Lack of air flow, (blower, filter, dirty evaporator coil, blocked ductwork etc.) there must be enough air passing the coil to allow the refrigerant to pick up the heat that is in the air..
2. lack of refrigerant- if the system has leaks and has lost refrigerant the evaporator coil will ice and this will carry out to the suction line at the condenser. (I have never seen the entire condenser freeze, only the large copper line back to the compressor.)
Steps you need to take:
1. I know this sounds crazy, but you must get full flow across the indoor coil , the easiest way to thaw the unit is to turn the heat on. make sure your drain line from the evaporator is clear and have old towels around as this is the quickest way, but also the messiest way to thaw the unit. If you feel uncomfortable turning the heat on, or do not want to make a water mess, then turn the thermostat to fan "ON" and cool "OFF" it will take considerable longer, but the mess is minimized, and will eventually thaw the coil. You need to visually access the indoor coil to verify that it is fully thawed and that all ice is gone. This may require taking the door off of the box with the two copper lines entering it, you may be able to just take off a few screws and see up into the box with a flashlight. During this thaw period, go to the outside unit and AFTER removing the fuse block or shutting the breaker off, use your garden hose to wash the outside coil use moderate water pressure and remove any debris and dirt that is collected in between the small fins on the coil. CAUTION: do not use too much pressure, if you bend the fins over you may cause damage.
2. After the indoor unit is thawed and dry, and the outside unit is clean and dry, You need Verify the blower inside is operating properly (turning at full speed) and that it is clean, this is verified by turning the thermostat to "Fan ON" taking the blower (furnace) door off and visually inspecting. The unit should be equipped with a small switch on the corner of the blower door frame that will need to be depressed to allow the blower to operate. if it is a squirrel cage style, the concaves can become full of dirt and debris and not push enough air. make sure your filter is clean or take it out all the way. CAUTION: there is line and low voltage as well as rotating hazard while performing this operation, if you do not feel safe or comfortable doing this, call a technician.

2. With the system operating in cool, (after you thaw the coil and indoor unit out, and clean the outside coil of any dirt or debris that is on the coil) go to the outside unit, your hand on the large copper line coming from the house, this line should feel cold, and may be wet, depending on humidity. the other line (small one) should feel warm or hot to the touch. If the line temperatures do not feel right you most probably have a refrigerant leak. The system is low or out of refrigerant. Shut the outdoor unit off as quickly as possible using the fuse block or breaker. The compressor is cooled by the refrigerant returning from the evaporator, if you let it run too long in this condition, you could destroy the compressor. (Think car with no antifreeze...) . Proper repair of this condition will require location of the leak, repair and recharge. If you find this to be required, you need to call an experienced technician as this in not a DIY project. Hope this helps!

I know that it sounds weird that low refrigerant charge will cause the coil to freeze, the easiest explanation I can give without getting into a physics dissertation is : as the refrigerant pressure lowers, the temperature lowers, the water in the air then condenses and the coil temp being lower than 32 degrees freezes the condensation.

SOURCE: Can Movincool classic plus 26 AC set the air temperature at below 70 degree F?

aircons normally pull down to approx. 17 degree celcius.and heats to approx 30 degree celcius.  most of the time you need to simply clean the condenser properly and to make sure fans are in good order.

SOURCE: My AC unit keeps freezing

Operate your air conditioner with the fan in the on position. But first turn the fan on, turn the temp up or shut the cooling off. Your coil is more than likely frozen over. At night when outside temperature drops the refrigerant pressure and temperature in the system also drops. This action can cause icing of the cooling coil, with the fan in automatic everything shuts down at the end of a cooling cycle. Thus no air movement to melt ice on previous cooling cycle.

SOURCE: AC changes temperature by itself!

If it's not some sort of built in economizing feature, someone else isn't getting up and changing the temperature while you are asleep and the air conditioner fairy is playing tricks, then the control PCB is in need of repair and will have to be repaired through a sears authorized repair center.
I am a bit surprised that it will allow you to set the temperature to a low 70 degrees as this is pushing the limits of an air conditioner. They tend to freeze the coils at around that temperature.

SOURCE: AC unit outside blowing out cold air, vents

If you have a heat pump probably there's a wrong connectionin the thermostat, but if is not a heat pump ,the compresor is not working or the unit leaked all the refrigerant.

SOURCE: THE FAN IN THE OUTSIDE

either the fan has went out or the capisitor for the fan is bad and needs to be replaced.if you have run the outside unit very long without the fan turning you might be replacing the compressor as well as the fan or capisitor.if the fan isnt pulling air through the cond coil outside, the compressor gets very hot very fast, and it locks down(burns up). get it looked at asap before it cost more because of other broken parts caused by the fan not working.

you will need a thermometer, you can use a meat therm.take a temp reading of the air going into the return and then coming out of the supply at the unit, it should be at least 15 to 20 degrees cooler in the supply, if not it may be low on refrigerant also check filter and return duct make sure your not pulling air from attic

We just turned on our central air conditioner last night. today the temp of the house was 80 degrees. someone in the household placed the tempature on 70 degrees cool on auto. we have not felt any air...

Did you hear the indoor unit running (the fan blowing)? If so, there's a good chance that either the filter is plugged or more likely, the evaporator coil is iced up and preventing any air from flowing into the dwelling.

This points to a refrigeration issue with the unit - possibly a leak or low refrigerant charge.

You should turn the A/C off and leave it off for a day. Then just turn the indoor unit fan on by selecting the fan "on" setting on your thermostat. If you feel air coming out of the vents, then the evaporator coil was probably frozen.

If you are not an HVAC tech, it's time to call for professional help.

Robertshaw 9600: Temperature rises too high, fan doesn't stop.

It sounds like the thermostat is wired improperly. One quick was to check is by finding breaker to unit and shutting off power. Go to thermostat and remove from wall take all wires off thermostat besides wire going to R(might be RcandRh) and C(which is common) Tape all bare wires removed with electrical tape. Now go back to the breaker and turn power back on. Nothing should be running at all. Take a voltage meter and measure the voltage from R to W(which is heating). If you read 24V then the thermostat is open and not calling for heat. Now turn the thermostat up so it is calling for heat. You should read 0V from R to W. If this checks out your thermostat is probally fine. You can check the fan the same way by going from R to G. In auto you shoul read 24V from R to G and in th on postion you will read 0V from R to G. If the thermostat checks out then the problem is probably at the furnace or rooftop. Either with the thermostat wiring or the main board acting up
