I have an older Lucent system. Processor R 4.1 W/206EC and 206 modules both R 3.1. They have two MLS-34D and 12 regular phones, When a call comes in all phones ring. Any ideas?
Why would this start all of a sudden? This is a for a small motel. Calls come in to the main phone console then get transferred to the rooms if needed. Could a simple couple of misguided key storkes reprogram the system, or is it quite process to get in and change it?
Thanks

I take it you do not want all the phones to ring? You can change what phones ring under different circumstances by programming the main phone system. You can get all the manuals at www.avaya.com I'd start by searching for "Partner R4.1" at Avaya and see what shows up. It will take some time to learn the system and how to program it but it's usually worth the effort for simple changes like this. You will probably find yourself needing to make a few simple changes now and then.
It sounds like your CPU memory battery is bad and that should be expected in the older Partner system at this point if it has never been replaced. The system will go to default programming in a power outage unless the battery is replaced. The Partner R4.1 has a small soldered in battery inside on the circuit board. I'm almost positive it's a 3.6v NiCD. Someone handy with a soldering iron could replace the battery using a 3 cell NiCD or NiMH battery pack with red/black wire (for a cordless phone) as long as they installed it with the proper polarity. Then the system would need to be reprogrammed. No use in re-programming it until the battery is replaced.
If you are in a hurry and never dealt with any of this before, I would suggest finding a local phone system installation company that handles Avaya systems (not necessarily Avaya authorized) and have them change the battery and re-program the system. Most small installation companies will know the older Partner system, they were very popular. Don't let them talk you into a new system (most will try) unless you are not happy with the features you have. Tell them the memory battery needs replacing before they come out.It sounds like your CPU memory battery is bad and that should be expected in the older Partner system at this point if it has never been replaced. Your ringer volume may be down or you may have call forwarding or do-not-disturb active. Try adjusting the volume button while not making a call (with the handset on hook). check if any button indicator lights are active on the phone such as call forward or do no disturb.
To program a Caller ID Name Display button using remote administration on Partner ACS Release 3 or later systems:
In the Partner ACS R3 System window, select Extensions. The Extensions window appears.
Select the extension you want to program. The Individual Extension Parameters window appears for the selected extension.
Select the Button Programming button. The Button Programming window appears for the selected extension.
Optional - For new systems where no download is available: From the Phone Model box, select the arrow and choose Partner-34D, Partner-18D, Partner-18 Non-display, Partner/MLS-6 Non-display, MLC-6 Cordless, MLS-12 Non-display, MLS-12D, MLS-18D, or MLS-34D for this extension. The button layout for the type of phone you selected appears.
Select the button you want to program. The Partner Set Button Programming Information dialog box appears.
Select the Caller ID Name Display button.
When you are finished, select the OK button.
Repeat steps 5 to 7 to program other buttons for this extension.
That doesn't sound good at all. I would first try powering down the system and waiting about 15 seconds or so before powering back up. If the problem remains, the processor was some how damagedand would be best if it was looked at by your vendor.
for your Personal greeting dial
intercom 777
enter your extension number following by the #
enter your Password (default 1234) following by the #
go to oPtion 3 to change your greeting
Your system is actually called Partner.
Compatible phones will consist of MLS12, MLS12D(display),Mls18, 18D(caller id display), 6D(display), 34, 34D(display) No other phone will work on this system
To program phone numbers
Press Feature 00, press/select a buton to program, input speed dial number. Press Feature 00 again.
The button that mutes the speakerphone is the mic/HFAI key located above your speaker button. The mic mute feature works while using the speaker, when the phone is idle it works as the handsfree answerback intercom.
hope that helps,
