Game update and screen just goes black...help!

I just signed up for PSN and tried to play Soul Calibur IV, when I put the disc in it says I need to update, so I press OK, the screen says Please Wait... for like a second and then it goes black. I left it on for over an hour and it just stayed that way. Surely it can't take that long to update the game! Any ideas on what is happening?

When you are asked to update a game, you should see a progress bar for both downloading and installing the update. Make sure you are connected to the internet to download the update.

When i am using my PS3 i can put a game in whilst off of the PSN and it will work however as soon as i sign into the PSN to go on a game online or perfomr the updates it crashes out and goes to a blank...

You can try resetting all your network settings on the system itself including your PSN sign in info. After clearing it all out and resetting the settings you should be able to relink your PSN account to the system and sign in. There could be some corrupt cache or update files in the system as well so you may have to do a system restore to defaults if the first method is a fail.

Game data won't show up.

It sounds like your files was lost to that game. Keep in mind the hard drive on your xbox is like the one in a computer. At times you can get a virus or even a hacker whos got nothing to do but Fu@# with other peoples haed ware.

test about 4 different games on the PS3...if all 4 can read and the Soul Caliber cannot then more then likely something is wrong with your disc...try purchasing a disc doctor...they work pretty well
