The rear circular element does not work and neither does the air circulation fan, regardless of what setting I have the oven mode selector switch on (even though it should operate for many of them). The cooling fan and the other elements work (when selected) however. Do I need a new selector switch or is it something else ?
Hi, it sounds like both the element and the fan have blown together, though this is unusual. If you can access the element quite easily I would look to see if there is a small hole in the side of the element.
It could be that there are some internal fuses somewhere in the oven housing, though the likelyhood is that you would need to remove the back off the oven, which normally means removing the whole thing from the housing.
If you don't feel confident in checking this I would advise asking a local electrician to take a look for you. try to find one that don't make a callout charge, most of the appliance repair companies do charge around £75 just to tell you that you have a problem, this normally covers up to 30 minutes of labour, after that you could pay anything up to £75/hour, these guys no how to charge and hit your pocket.
Hope this helps
Testimonial: "I have since checked the selector switch with a multimeter and all looks Ok. I have removed the element and checked it finding that it seems to be "open circuit", so I have ordered a replacement. The outstanding question is whether the fan is blown also or whether it somehow relies on a functioning element (which I doubt but am hopeful of given the likely expense of a new fan motor). I suspect your diagnosis is spot on. If I was a betting man I would say the fan blew, and then without any air circulating past the element it overheated and blew also. Thanks for your feedback."
