You always have the option of finding a repair kit online, or going to a good hardware or marine shop. if you're not quite sure what to do, Bill's suggestion of going to Youtube is a great one. Doing it yourself might save you some money, but I think having the job done professionally would ensure that your boat is in great shape.http://www.custommarineusa.com/

Fibre glass repair kits are readily available from quality hard ware shops , marine shops and boating supplies and e-bay
there are plenty of youtube pages showing how to do the job
But if you are still hesitant about doing the job yourself take the boat to a marine dealer or shipright and have the job done professionally

Do you have a side imaging transducer? If so, mounting to the inside of a fiberglass hull will not work. The transducer mounting needs to be as flat (pointed downward) as much as possible and use the slow curing epoxy that would come with the unit. If you cannot find the problem, contact the manufacturer for support.

What problems or benefits will I get with an aluminium boat hull

Aluminum boats are easier to maintain, will last longer than fiberglass, and are easier to repair. You can also bump into things without causing damage like you would to a fiberglass hull.

The only real advantages to fiberglass are that it looks better due to the gelcoat finish, providing that it is maintained, they also feel more solid in the water due to the extra weight, and they tend to ride better and are quieter than an aluminum hull.

One other consideration is whether you will operate it in fresh water or salt water. Salt water can lead to corrosion problems on an aluminum hull if you leave it in the water. Fiberglass doesn't have that problem, but you can have a problem with blistering if you leave a fiberglass boat in the water for long periods, especially if you don't use a bottom coat of some sort.

If you do opt for an aluminum boat in salt water, just make sure that you spray it down with fresh water and wipe it down with a soft towel whenever you take it out of the water. This is actually a good practice for any boat, aluminum or fiberglass.

Repair of small crack/cut in the hull bottom...3 " long..1/64" or less wide...

It depends on the material of the hull. If it is Fiberglass then buy a small auto or boat repair fibreglass kit and follow instructions in the kit.
. If it is one of the engineering thermoplastics like High density Polyethylene ABS or Polypropylene I would try and find somone who can weld it with the appropriate material. This would be done by carefully shaping the plastic away from the crack to form a "V" shaped recess and then filling the gap with the appropriate filler rod usually using a hot air blower designed for the job.

Can you fix a hole in the bottom of a kayak?

Try using a product called Marine-tex it can be purchased @ most outdoor goods stores. It is not that expensive and is a 2 part compound that is very easy to use and does not dry so fast you can't work with it. I have used it to patch aluminum boat hulls and fiberglass PWC's. Give it a try..
