My mouse is frozen on my hp dm4 and the orange light in the left hand corner is not on, nor will it turn on when double tapped

First thought is look at the top of the touch pad, there is a button. Push this button once and see if the mouse works. HP put this button on to deactivate the mouse if needed.

If this does not work, plug in an external mouse and see if it works, if not do a hard boot on the computer and try the mouse again.

When my new hp mouse pad locks, how do i unlock it without restarting the computer?

There should be a button above the pad or work your way using the keybord to mouse properties and go to the page that has the name of your track pad and select enable.

Pavilion dv 1000

hook up a extrenal mouse and see if it still does it. If not, get into windows and check your power save options and make sure its not going into standby. Windows defaults to Three minutes on laptops and it may be going into standby.

If it blanks out with all the lights still on, try pressing the power button once and see if it comes on to where it was before. If it does, its going into power save.

These options are in the display settings which you find by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties in the little box, it will open a box with tabs. click on the screensaver tab and at the bottom it has a button for power options, click it and change settings accordingly, also make sure the screen saver isnt set to come on after like a minute, usually you want it for 5-10 for a laptop and you only want power save options set for when its on battery power.

Also make sure that it doesnt have it set to go into standby when you close the lid.
