Question about Janome Sewing Machines
I was showing machine to 2 different repair shop and had 2 absolutely different diagnostic for this problem. Both are very expensive to repair (motor or boards) I completely confused! Could you please help me to understand what should I do with my machine!

its the sensor on the bobinwinder who are loose. If you are handy. you can remove the top cover of the machine.
And on the left side of the bobinwinder you will find a micro switch. Probably you have to tighten the screw on it..

I've been looking too and I found here http://sewing.patternreview.com/cgi-bin/sewingclasses/board.pl?t=18328that you need to put the bar behind the needle threader down. I think they call it a button hole stop? I don't know, but it worked. I didn't even know it existed. But it solved my problem. On my Kenmore it looks like a black lever and you pull it down. It tells the button-holer that you are at the end of the hole and it needs to backup. nifty, kind of.

If a warrantee job, it will be no charge.
Motor in Australia is $149-00.....plus installation charge.
You could phone or email Janome HQ or another dealer in your country and ask for an explaination of the E1 error to satisfy yourself of what is the likely cause, and a quote to fix it.

step motor error may mean the embroidery arm is out of position gently push it back home towards the machine and see if this helps. If the mother board is gone, they will not be able to replace it as its so old, but you may be able to get an 8000 or 9000 on ebayso you can still use your discs if you don't want to get a new machine
