You can transfer only media files (don't know why). To do it, go to media, prees "menu", select "recieve using bluetooth" and after that send from sony ericsson.

Have you & him trusted both the devices first?
Sometimes this has to be done for the good smartphones that have secure wi-fi settings defaulty installed on the systems from manufacturers.
Go to your Connections settings.
Select: "Trusted Devices" if you have that one or similar wording.
Make sure your friends 9700 is selected as a Trusted Device so that you'd be able to pair information across.

On the Home screen, drag the up arrow, find and click on your settings
for wireless controls. Check the Bluetooth in the status bar settings.
Find the Discoverable box and mark it. Your phone should be available for
120 seconds. Please make sure that your bluetooth is in pairing mode,
flashing blue red. This should take care if the problem.
Good luck from Headsets Direct!
