if it opens back up when you close it the drawer mechanism is probably out of alignment. Most players have a slot on the bottom of the drawer that a pin must slide in. Look under the drawer and see if there is a pin sticking up that maybe should be in that slot.
Take the 4 screws out of the top, lift the CD drawer out, disconnect the two wire harnesses, take the top off, lift the 3 disc tray out, then force the drawer open and closed a few times until it slides freely. Put it back together and it may or may not work. Worked for me.
the cd drawer will probably use infra-red to sense when the drawer is open or closed or maybe just a gear mechanism, either way these must be clean, I'd take it apart and lean it all with cotton buds and isopropyl alcohol
This could be a bad belt or a defective end sense switch. The parts are no longer available I am told for this unit by New Jersey Factory Service where the could be fixed. This is one of the older models.
There is very little you can, these items in general cannot be repaired. Go to www.ebay.com Type make and model of laptop, refine search to cd/dvd driver.
The rubber band has stretched with age. Easy fix, take cover off (several screws around the case) and band is easily accessed. Even a cheap elastic band will work as a replacement for now, it only opens the drawer mechanism, no effect on sound quality.
