If the voltage is the same, and the current of your replacement adapter is equal to / greater than the original, it should work perfectly fine. BUT.. The only thing to pay attention to is if it is AC or DC. AC requires nothing more for you to do. DC however, will require that you have the proper polarity: PLUS (+) and MINUS (-) on the mating plug contact points. If you guess at this, you have a 50/50 chance of turning it into "toast". If the socket is unmarked, contact the manufacturer to obtain polarity information BEFORE connecting! Good luck!
Connect the AC adapter into a known working AC outlet and to the DC jack on the notebook. NOTES:
Verify
the correct Sony AC adapter is being used, and not a third-party
replacement AC adapter. To determine the model number of the AC adapter
for your computer, refer to the specifications available online through
the Manuals/Specs/Warranty link on this page.
Do not connect the AC adapter to a surge protector or extension cord.
If the DC jack on the computer is loose or damaged, the computer may require service.
Some
AC adapters have a POWER LED indicator and can be confirmed as
receiving power by ensuring the LED is lit. If the AC adapter is
damaged, or the LED is not lit or continuously flickers when plugged
into a working AC outlet, the adapter must be replaced. A replacement
AC adapter can be obtained from the Sony® Parts and Accessories Sales
Web site at http://www.sony.com/pas or by calling (239) 768-7691.

These
devices include, but are not limited to, a modem, floppy disk drive,
network connection, USB device, printer, keyboard, or mouse.
On
older model computers, the maximum current output from the USB is
500ma. If a connected USB device draws more current than this amount,
the unit may not power on.
Attempt to turn on the computer.
Remove any additional Random Access Memory (RAM) that was installed in the computer.
Attempt to turn on the computer. NOTES:
The
troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you
have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service
may be required.
When shipping the computer for repair, include all notes of the LED status that display during troubleshooting.
[[DAPC Direct Accessories and Parts Center]] If all the above troubleshooting steps fails, then you will have to ship the Computer to San Diego Service Center.
If your computer functions while plugged into the ac adapter, but the battery still is not charging, then the battery will likely need to be replaced. If your computer does not run while plugged in, then you may have a faulty ac adapter. You should be able to obtain a replacement adapter from the manufacturer or a universal one from a local component shop or online
You need to obtain an AC adapter designed to work with your laptop and also run on 110 to 220 Volts.. Depending on your Laptop manufacturer, you may be able to obtain one specifically designed for your laptop. You can also find these devices online. look for 2 things... the ac adapter and the plug converter kit... lots a different ones, so look for the type you need for the locale you are going to. Some universal kits covers all the major types.
remove all external peripherals.
remove laptop battery.
remove ac adapter.
plug ac adapter to wall power socket without the laptop connected check if the ac adapter led will stays on. if yes then connect it to the laptop and check if the ac adapter led turns off. if yes motherboard laptop has problems and need to be replaced.
if ac adapter led stays off without connecting laptop, try different wall power socket, if still ac adapter led is off then replace the ac adapter.
if ac adapter has light stays on then connected to laptop but laptop cannot even power up even the ac adapter led is on then laptop motherboard needs to be replace.
Replacements are generally harder to acquire than hens teeth. If you cannot find one, the much simpler solution is to take your drive to a PC shop and ask the technicians to put the drive in a new enclosure for you which will come with it's own AC adapter included.

Greetings jack71471, there are a couple options to obtain a replacement AC adapter for your Durabrand DVD player. One option is to purchase a universal adapter from a store such as Radio Shack. The other option is to buy a dedicated 9 volt AC replacement adapter from a couple sources on eBay. Just do a search for "PDV-709 adapter" and you will find some AC adapters and 12 volt car adapters as well. If you choose the universal replacement option, make sure you bring the player and adapter with you so the salesperson can configure the settings and polarity to match the original adapter. That is unless you are confident enough to set it yourself, in which case you can purchase a universal adapter most anywhere as long as the current rating ( rated in milliamps or "ma") is equal to or greater than the original. Best of luck to you.
