Are the cartridges in working order. I had similar problem with another make of printer when printer lights kept flashing and one of the cartridges was defective.
Check the printer's power/alarm light. If it is flashing orange, count the number of flashes. Look up the flash code in your printer's user manual to diagnose the problem.

Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges if the power/alarm light flashes 5, 7 or 15 times consecutively. This indicates that the issue is a cartridge error, an incorrectly installed cartridge, or an unrecognized cartridge. These errors can be fixed by reinstalling the ink cartridges. Make sure that you are using the correct ink cartridges for your Canon printer.
Turn on the printer and open the front cover. The ink cartridge holder should move to the replacement position.

Verify that the colored ink cartridge is inserted in the slot on the right and the black ink cartridge is inserted in the slot on the left. Swap the cartridges and reinstall them in the correct slots if necessary.

Check to see that both ink cartridges are level with one other and parallel to the top of the ink cartridge holder. If either cartridge is wedged at an angle, gently apply pressure to the cartridge until it clicks into the correct position.

Close the front cover of your Canon printer and wait while the printer initializes the newly installed cartridges. This can take a minute or two.
Issue:

Follow these steps to reset the printer:
Turn the printer off with the Power button (if available).

Unplug the printer's power cord for approximately 10
minutes, and then plug it back in. If troubleshooting a communication
issue, reconnect the data cable (not applicable to WiFi, Bluetooth or
Infrared).
Our pixma MP150 printer has a flashing E and flashing 5, also flashing on alarm, black ink and color ink. We have replaced the ink cartridges but nothing happens. They were empty. The printer doesnt recognize that the cartridges are there. We have tried unplugging the cords and taking the cartridges out and putting them in again. Also, it wont scan a thing either. ITs likes its frozen in the error. What can we do to fix this?
