Either the fan motor is not running, causing frost accumulation on the freezer back - check that the fan is running. Or, you have malfunction in the defrost system - Of of the three defrost components: defrost timer, heater or thermostat

Hotpoint frost free fridge freezer the fridge not working but freezer is

Hi Reginald

Most refrigerator / freezer units chill the fridge area by venting some fraction of the very cold air from the freezer into the fridge compartment through a channel that has a mechanical air valve in it. In this way, it can control the chilled air flow, and aim for the set temperature, all the way down, in some cases, to freezing, or even colder, on the fridge side.

That vent unit, depending on your model, sill be somewhere in the wall that separates the freezer from the fridge. What can happen is that moisture condenses into the louver that slides to control the airflow, it freezes, and then system is stuck, since it's cold on the freezer side, and this keeps the louver frozen stuck. If that is the case, shutting the unit off for a while may recover function, though getting it to where ice is melting in an interior wall may be more risk of food spoilage than you'd want. Otherwise, use a search engine to look for 'how to test freezer / refrigerator vent in make/model', and you'll likely come across all sorts of youtube and step-by-step tutorials.

Good Luck!

The lower part of my samsung cooltech fridge is freezing all food.

Hi nalin, sounds like you may have a problem with with your defrost timer. Defrost timers can fail due to wear and tear. If this happens during the cooling mode, it will allow excessive frost to accumulate on the cooling coils causing the refridgeration compartment to over shoot its chilling operation in turn causing everything to freeze. Best bet would be to call up a local Appliance Service Technician while the fridge is still manageable so you save on time and money. Also it wouldnt be a bad idea checking the thermostat rotational knob on the rear inner wall of the fridge (if there is one) just to make sure that the machine isnt fully dialed to max chill, hope this helps.

If your veg is freezing you need to RAISE the temp in the fridge,if #7 is coldest, then #1 is warmest.SET IT TO #3.You should keep a fridge at +5C for best storage of CHILLED food.you should also adjust your fridge for summer and winter ambient temperatures.a fridge/FREEZER thermometer is ESSENTIAL.OTHERWISE YOUR WASTING MONEY/ENERGY.

Temperature in fridge wont set,for example, trying to set at+4,but keeps reverting back to +12,FOOD NOT CHILLING...Any help appreciated...thanks

freezers have a defrost mode for the coil and it is on a timer, it may be bad. if it is, the coil will freeze with the moisture it pulls from the freezer and not let air pass over it. also, the coil located at the bottom of the unit may simply be dirty.
