CHA? I don't know a lot about cameras, but my company has a Nikon D70s that I'm using. It stopped taking photos and CHA appears on the screen on top, even when the power is off. It's fully charged so that's not it. I can't find CHA in the manual. Please advise.

I found this answer on the Nikon web site.

3) Camera displays “CHA” in top LCD. The camera has detected an invalid partition type or is not working properly. Reformatting the memory card may allow it to be used. If an approved memory card causes the camera to display the "CHA" indicator contact the memory cards manufacturer for assistance.

Please note that the default disk format used in Windows XP is FAT32 and if a card is formatted with this setting on an XP system, a D1 series camera will report "CHA". Reformat the card as "FAT" to use in the D1 series camera.

My camera can not read the cards and on the screen say can not read this card and on the settinigs has the letter cha

Take a look inside your camera's CF card slot. I suspect that you may have a bent pin in there. If so, don't fret. Although professional repair would be more costly than the value of the camera, there is a good chance (if you have some patience) that you can repair this yourself. Please see this link.

My nikon d70 keeps saying (CHA) and will not let me take photos and deleted the ones I did have this is my third card please help

Sccording to my D70 manual:
"CHA"= this card cannot be used. try Nikon approved card,, Try reformatting card in camera, not PC, clean card contacts in camera using camel hair brush and blower.

You might also use a small pen and press the hardware rest buttin in bottom of camera (page 200 in manual)

Nikon D70

I have the same problem....after searching some say get new card (I did) some say reformat (I have), some say clean pins (I would try this but don't know how) SO if you get any answers I would appreciate it. The only temporary solution that I have found is to Re-format (thus losing pics) or to simply pull the card out and put back in.

Problems reading card in camera

There are several possibilities here.
1. Bad Cable
2. The USB plug on the camera is damaged, ie broken solder connections.
3. Bad card.

If the problem turns out to be #2 your camera will probably need a new main circuit. Which is a Nikon Repair. Probably around $250 or more.
