Everything works except it doesn't display any video while recording but will when playing back tape from another camera. Records audio like it's supposed to. Camera was in storage for 2 years.

Hello Howard

I am thinking/sounds like that the problem is in the LCD display. How old is the camera, as it been stored in a safe location to avoid any serious damage and/or a dry location. Could possible where the display opens on the camera. May be you could find a local Sony dealer to take a look at it for you.
Please let me know the out come of your camera.
Ben.

I reviewed the owners manual to your camera.

On page 126 it says this:

1)The stereo tape is played back with HIFI sound set to 2 in the menu settings.
Set it to STEREO (see page 79)
2) The volume is turned to a minumum.
Press Volume + (see page 27)
3) Audio Mix is set to ST2 side in the menu settings.
Adjust the audio mix (see page 79)

If one of those 3 options doesn't work, try using an 8mm tape head cleaner.

My TRV68 has a black screen and only records audio. playing back of old Hi8 tapes the video playback works and the video could be viewed. but if recording only the audio would save/write

Possibly faulty video recording head. Save your tapes to another format (dvd, digital files etc) and replace camera with something current. Probably is not worth to repair.

The screen works and the mechanical gears and everything work, but it simply does not display a picture, only the blue screen when you attempt to play a tape. Simply turning the camcorder on in record...

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. Does this cam, play the mini dv tapes????

If you are referring to the JVC GR-DVL520, yes it does play Mini DV tapes, as well as records to them. It will not play Mini DV tapes that were recorded on an HDV camera. HDV is used by any Mini DV camera that records HD video.

Canon uc-1 video 8mm camcorder

Yes it can be fixed, but Canon is not the easiest to work on. Is the connector loose at all? The audio head may be dirty. This is not on the spinning heads. If you look inside and locate the pinch roller (rubber roller), there should be a silver head that looks like a cassette tape head. Try cleaning that using a cotton swab and alcohol. See if that resolves the problem.

Keep us posted.
