Sony Bravia 50 inch has a humming noise after a near lightning strike. everything else works fine. When I mute the sound, the humming (kinda high pitched) stays on. Sounds like I may have fried a capacitor on the power board? Any ideas?

3times blinking red light Sony bravia 40w700c

Kinda points to power supply . Does it start normal for a short time or refuse to start ? Bad capacitors are a common problem in the past , doubt that is cause here but on bench I always run the ESR meter around the power board at least .
You could have a bad CCFL but this young not likely . Did you have a power surge or lightning strike nearby ? A UPS is always a great investment not just a surge bar .
Make sure you power cycle...ie:pull plug from supply and let sit 15 seconds at least . Then try again .

Just some thoughts with out more info .

Sony Bravia KDl-55EX720 Struck by lightning.Red light shines.Nothing else works.

Claim on your insurance. lightning strikes reach voltages higher than a PCB (printed Circuit Board ) can handle. most of the chips inside will probably be bits of burnt glass now.

Does my 32 inch Bravia have a fan? There is a noise in the back of my tv that sounds like a fan running.

There are no fans inside your 32 inch Bravia. I don't know the sound you are asking about. Is it a high pitch squeal? Is it a low volume humm? In either case you may hav e a bad filter capacitor or a problem in the Dolby noise reduction filter. In any of these cases, the filter cap in any location on the board can create the first sign of a problem. For starters, always suspect your filter caps.

We had a lightning storm and now the ac wont work

Depending on where you live, there are electrical codes that require a 'disconnect' near the outside unit.. This is to be removed prior to servicing that unit and prevent the service person from getting injured if someone inadvertantly turned it on The humming sound you may be hearing may be the fan motor insise that unit, It is possible that the lightning strike generated a surge that damaged that fan motor winding.. With the protective screen removed and that unit disconnected from power.. try spinning the fan by hand to make sure it is free to turn, then reassemble everything and see if will start up. If it is a 220VAC system then you could also be missing one phase of power..You might want to contract an electrician for that aspect of troubleshooting. Be careful and goodluck..
