My Sony VPL ES4 switches on quite Ok, but after some seconds the bulb goes off and a red light just blinks

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. check a small bord under the mother bord calld air sensor

its look`s like a transistor check the divice properly and change the projector frimware through computer

Does it switch off with an error message or the lights indicating a problem. is the power saving feature switched on.
is the air filter cleaned.

Do one thing try to reset the lamp hour timer. for the same do the following.

Press the following keys on the remote in the following order for less than 5 seconds each.( on standby mode)

RESET then LEFT ARROW then RIGHT ARROW then ENTER

Remember on thing lamp reset is recommended only after replacing the lamp. if works try to replace the lamp as soon as possible.

check that the lamp cover is not bent up slightly due to old age, and the little switch underneath is activated when the cover is installed

circuit board fuse blown?

the lamp of the device may be going to end its life, need replacement.
