Same exact issue. Using HDMI to dvi cable connected to scientific atlanta cablebox hdmi out port to acer dvi in and changed selection via monitor menu. still get input not supported.

I have a Scientific Atlanta box with my AL2216wbd and I'm having the same problem.

The cable guy is coming within a few days.  I looked in the specs sheet that came with the box, and it said, "For an HDMI to DVI connection, use an adapter."  I've seen dumb and smart adapters on eBay, maybe one of these would solve this problem.  I'll let you guys know.

The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.

For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.

The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).

If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.

No signal

Press the Function Button to open the short cut menu. Locate the Input graphic and press the button for it. Each time you press the button, it will cycle between DVI and VGA input jacks. Allow a few seconds for the display to switch inputs. Make sure that cable is connected securely to the associated jack in the back of the monitor and the computer (or other source). If either VGA or DVI input is selected ,but the VGA and DVI cables are not connected, a floating dialog box indicates:

"No Cable Connect" or "No Signal"

Why my Pc monitor showing Input not supported?

There are several inputs that a monitor can handle depending if it's capable of doing so. For example, just like TV, if you want to watch a DVD, you have to change the input to Video and going back to TV, just choose TV input. The same way for computer monitors. If the monitor supports VGA, DVI, HDMI and others, you have to select the right input depending of the type of Video cable connected from your tower to the monitor. If you it is connected via VGA, choose VGA input. If the cable is HDMI, select HDMI. That will let your monitor switch from one input to the other..

Hope that works for you. -
I'll appreciate the feedback and the thumbs up.
Thanks.

If it's got a DVI input then it can handle a DVI signal.

There is no reason to have two cables plugged in unless you have two screens. If you've got two leads plugged in then the second one is probably turned off by default. I remember when I had a dual monitor set up, I had to turn on the second output in order to get both screens working.

You haven't said if you removed the d sub when the pc was off, but I get the impression that it was on at the time. Try unplugging the d sub while the pc is off, check the dvi cable is inserted correctly on both ends and then turn your pc on. It should now be working.

If that doesn't work then turn your pc off again, plug the d sub back in and start it up. Go to your display settings and turn on the dvi port, you want it to display a copy of the first screen. if you extend your desktop then you'll only be able to see half of it at a time. This isn't an ideal solution and your graphics card will be doing double the work, so try it the proper way first.

You might not notice the difference though.

Your Dell Monitor does not have a video output. The DVI/HDMI cable needs to run from the DVI-Out of you computer tower directly to the TVs HDMI input, ideally one with a red/white analog audio input next to it, because that cable only provides a video signal. If you don't have a DVI out on your computer, perhaps your TV has a VGA input. If your computer/video card only has one monitor connector, then you can only connect the Monitor OR the TV.

The screen flick when connected to Samsing Sync

Hello there!

Screen flickering can be caused by instability of cable you are using, or it can be also caused by difference between power input, so check your power plug ,where your monitor and pc are plugged, make sure they are ok for your region, and check those cabels. Also check settings on monitor for what input you are using DVI or VGA or both at the same time.

Please check whether you are using a DVI (Digital Visual Interface) cable or VGA (Video Graphics Array) cable to the monitor. The monitor will adjust automatically to the requirements of the connected cable. From the question I think you had connected a DVI cable to the monitor.Make sure that there is no loose contact between the ports and the cable. Also make sure that the proper settings on the monitor are done for the DVI cable configuration.

HP w1907 both DVI and VGA inputs are active

hi mate, its seems by what your saying that you have both dvi and vga cables connected to the monitor from the computer, the easiest solution is to remove the unwanted input cable from the pc and monitor ( i would remove the VGA) then restart the computer you really should only run a single cable either vga or dvi not both at once the monitor just comes with both cables encase your pc doesn't have one of the connector types, there not there to both be connected at once :)

if you have a reasonto want to keep both cables connected then you need to right click your desktop , click display settings, you should see two monitors there labeled 1 and 2

click on the phantom display ( probably number 2) then click the drop down box titled "Multiple Displays" and change the option to "disconnect this display" , then apply the changes and then your problem is solved

if you are useing a older windows like 7 or 8 the proceedure is the same but the name of the drop down box may be diffrent but it still has the same option to disable the display

below is the windows screen ( i have 3 displays so ignore number 3)

I need help setting up the DVI input.

Hi,

There are two ways to do this.

First and simplest is to simply shutdown the pc, disconnect the analog from the back of your PC and connect the DVI cable to the PC and monitor. When you turn it back on the PC will detect and switch to the DVI.

Second, and better to compare. Connect both sets of cables and go into your display settings, then select advanced options. You should see a GeForce tab in the advanced menu. On that tab there is a multi monitor display setup. Set it to mirror to both screens and apply.

Once it's set switching inputs on the monitor SHOULD work. The problem that makes it a "should" is that both the monitor and the video card have the ablility to sense a connection. So, even with mirroring setup you may have to use the first method as you can't have both connected and operational at the same time.

Give these a try, if you're not sure how to get into the display settings, comment back here with your windows version and I will give you a step by step

Inoperative monitor

Here are a couple things to try.

1. try the input select button on the monitor (The minnus button) without pressing the OSD menu button 1st, see if it changes to analog.

http://support.us.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/1703fps/en/controls.htm

When the DVI self-test screen is up, it is indicating monitor is in DVI mode.

2. If that doesn't work, try a DVI to analog converter on the DVI port on the monitor and connect the analog cable to the converter. See if you get any video that way.

3. If you can access the On-Screen Display (OSD Menu) perform a factory reset.

No display.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/monitors/2005FPW/En/setup.htm#Using%20the%20OSD

Make sure the proper input is selected

1: D-SUB for Blue VGA cable
2: DVI-D for White DVI cable

The option selected should be indicated on the power save screen.

If changing the input select and rebooting the computer have no effect an no video from the computer is ever displayed, then the monitor is in need of repair.
