Throttle pot problems are common on these,to test the pot put the secooter against a wall and put secure wooden blocks underneath the back transaxle to lift the wheels off the ground, turn on scooter and then operate the throttle 1/4 way with the speed controll set to max speed, with the wheels turning moderatly gently rock the wig wag from side to side whilst keeping it 1/4 speed ,if the wheels rapidly speed up and down while rocking the wig wag lever.then the pot is worn out and needs replacement, slight variation only is permitted,pc

While the throttle pot could be a problem, it could also be a few other things. The speed adjustment dial could also be faulty, for one. Another thing may be the power control module sensing a motor overheating and slowing the scooter down to avoid further damage. If you have had the scooter on terrain that is unstable, like mud, wet grass, etc...and got stuck then, tried to power your way out, you may have damaged the motor or the brushes inside the motor that transfer power from the batteries to the motor itself. Other causes could be from overloading the scooter past its weight capacity, or if you are at the weight capacity and take it up a long hill, this can overheat and damage the motor. There are two, black plastic slotted caps on the motor about the size of a dime that hold the brushes in. You can have someone open these up and inspect the brushes for signs of overheating/damage.

Is this on a hill or on a straight stretch. It is normal for a scooter
to drop off speed on an incline.

SOURCE: scooter slows down but gets up to speed again

I believe i know what the problem is. This is a battery issue. What happens over time, is batteries by being charged over and over, eventually get a memory, and cells eventually slowly go dead. Meaning this: Reason, is it feels like someone is unhooking your battery as it slows down, and the reason it starts speeding up after shutting it down a few minutes, is it regains some strength. Batteries when cells are getting bad, they get hot faster when trying to function at full capacity. When you turn it off, they cool a little, and acid in battery slowly drain down, then when starting it up again, it flows up again, until gets hot and does it again.

Conclution: I believe by replacing the battery, this issue will be solved, if for some reason it still does it, only other step is motor is getting worn, where barring is getting hot, and causing the shut down as a safety fire shut down, to prevent further damage. BUT , i doubt that, I believe battery is the issue.

I hope this helps you, Mike from Fixya.

I have a 40cc scooter and when I'm driving it goes fast then slows down then cuts out and when I turn it off and on it works then slows down again any help please

Hello -

I have no idea how your question about your scooter landed in the Health & Beauty category.

From personal experience, there may be something clogging the fuel line. If you can perform your own scooter maintenance then, the fuel line is the 1st place to check. You will need to drain the fuel tank 1st. When you drain the fuel tank, you may find whatever may be clogging the fuel line. In my case, it was a self-adhesive price tag which came off of a bottle of fuel additive I added to the fuel.

If you don't perform much scooter maintenance, you will need to take it to a mechanic who works on your make of scooter, as I had to do.

My bruno regal 44 scooter seems to slow down after a few hundered meters, once I stop, its at full speed again, is the a safety feature?

You maybe experiencing a brake hanging up, causing drag on the motor. the brain box senses over current use and will automatically slow down. The motor brushes maybe worn down and have a build up of carbon powder, particularly on the bottom side of the motor, causing this problem, remove brushes and blow out with compressed air, no Sprays please this can cause more harm than good. Note take out all brushes before blow it out with air. Check brushes springs are not discolored.

Invacare meteor, keeps slowing down, then speeds up again, can you help.

usual cause of this is the throttle (wig-wag ) controll potentiometer has worn test put the scooter against a wall and get a freind to lift up the rear of the scooter and put 2 large blocks of wood underneath it so the back wheels can rotate
carefully advance the throttle 1/2 way then with wheels turning.keep in same position and gently move the throttle lever up and down .if there is a lot of play and the speed varies drasticaly then pot replacement reqd .you can get a dealer to order the correct one or get one off the internett but when fittinf if thr pot is not set to exact center with multimeter scooter will not move and produce off center error code

Slow speed

hi what happening to the battery power indicator while this happens ?

if you are sure the batteries are okay , look at the connections to the rear axle, making sure they are a good clean connection, you be amazed the problems with those connectors...

1. Motor breaking down.. ( Resistance changing ), Brush less motor otherwise check the brushes...
2.Brake coming on so slowing the scooter down.
3.The output stage of the controller is breaking down....

I have a sterling diplomat 306 id,

Look at the right hand back corner of the bootlid recess, there is a very small steel spike sticking up which is a switch. Sometimes if the scooter goes over a sharf bump, the lid jumps slightly and the switch lifts momentary and puts the brake on. It thinks the lid has been lifted and goes into charging mode.
Switching the power on and off resets the system until the next sharp bump.
The switch is ajustable, or the bootlid needs to be pushed down harder before locking it.
I had this happen on my Diplomat 408i.
Hope this helps.

I have a PRIDE scooter. It is a Victory model but I don't have any serial number or exact model #. It turns on, goes a little and then "bucks" ir stops completely. When I take out the key and...

1)Make sure the battery's fully charged..
2)Your brake lock and unlock leaver under your sure its totally engaged in the locked position in other words ''all the way pushed down''.
3)Take the shroud off the back, this can be done by removing the seat, hold the seat leaver up towards you ,Now you should be able to rotate the seat when you have lifted that leaver when it does rotate lift up the seat it will come that the seat, the shroud are off. you will be able to see the battery's make sure the connections are good and tight...
4)Tilt the scooter over on its side there is a grayish white cable this is your front-to-rear cable follow it from the front to the back ,make sure there is no cut or broken spots'which would be a spot on the cable that looks as if its been scraped against the ground .If there is a brake in that cable it will need replacement.
* Put the shroud and the seat back on the scooter if everything checks out ,Get on the scooter turn the key make sure that needle goes all the way to fully charged mark go slow tap the top of the console if it stops faster than it did before or doesn't at all your looking at a new key switch.

hope i was helpful good luck.
