If the belts are not tight enough they will slip, they should all be fairly tight but not like a piano string if you know what I mean.
As you do not describe what the machine is doing wrong I can not really say any more at present, except make sure there is no oil on the belts and the machine has no tight spots when you turn it over by hand.
You really need the instruction manual. You can order one at several places. I ordered mine through the Allyn Co., who is the present day Necchi distributer now in the U.S.A. You can order by calling them at 1-800-525-9987. They cost $10. & a moderate shipping & handling chargr. Their manuals are pretty informative on the machines, at least mine is.I bought two Necchi's used. One is a 537l & the other is a 525FA. It tells you how to clean & oil it & how often to do it & mine shows you how to set machine for the various results, & tells your stretch from the other stiches, etc.
