Rooting your phone will void the warranty. There is a well known developer site that caters to rooting and other software modification. If you have a Developer Edition DROID Maxx you can unlock the bootloader: http://www.motorola.com/developer

Can you get to the app store? Down load a wifi calling app like Magic jack, viber, or any other. This will allow phone to make calls via wifi. If you just want to send text, then either voxer or text plus, will work.

I assume you mean when you start the phone the Motorola Logo is different each time you turn on the phone. This is normal and has no significance other than we are a diverse company.
If you meant icons at the top of the screen or something else please specify further.
